GM: Harro there, young froghopper.
Shenvallei D’ansille: [1d12 = 1]
GM: a 1!
GM: Hm…everything in order?
GM: as far as we can tell, anyway?
Kiergath (Alusair): yo.
Alex: Yo indeed.
GM: To recap: Last time….
In which Shenvallei decides to start the First Sigilian Plant a Tree Club, discover Zero has gone off his rocker, and hole up in the local bar, hiding from Harmonium thugs.
Shenvallei D’ansille: Sounds familiar, what was the last part where we left off. The Harmonium were still searching the bar, or they had just busted in next door to our room correct?
GM: A harmonium agent had busted into the room next to you, and there is a significant presence in the bar.
Shenvallei (Shenvallei D’ansille): why were we paranoid they are after us again? Because we bumped into tim tim right?
Shenvallei (Shenvallei D’ansille): and they thought we were dead before that.
Shenvallei (Shenvallei D’ansille): I mean I know we are wanted criminals.
Kiergath (Alusair): There’s also the fact that, when we arrived in Sigil, it was in the middle of a crowd
Kiergath (Alusair): We drew alot of attention
Kiergath (Alusair): And Tim Tim got us out of the area shortly before the harmonium arrived there
Shenvallei (Shenvallei D’ansille): ah right. probably a bounty on us too, that is if the harmonium does that sort of thing.
Kiergath (Alusair): Pray they don’t
Kiergath (Alusair): You don’t want to meet the mercykillers at L5.
Kiergath (Alusair): :P
Alex: No, no you don’t.
Shenvallei (Shenvallei D’ansille): in the room with us is Zero, Azuras, and Jesebel right?
Alex: If memory serves. You had placed Fiona in her own room.
Kiergath (Alusair): si
Shenvallei (Shenvallei D’ansille): ya shes sleeping off drink I think.
Kiergath (Alusair): alot of it
Shenvallei D’ansille: Well in that case I stay where I am by the door with it cracked open peeking out into the bar looking paranoid.
You do so…the struggling ceases next door, and you see a half naked woman get dragged out of the room, scrambling to hold onto something for dear life, while the officer carries her, mostly by the scruff of her neck, holding her away so her clawing hands can’t get at his face.
GM: She’s dragged outside the bar, screaming oaths at powers, causing some degree of consternation and arousal in the new patrons of the bar.
You catch a fleeting glimpse of a tail, and possibly horns.
Alusair: “Huh.. tiefling?”
Shenvallei D’ansille: “You know her?”
Alusair: “Huh? No. Just looks like a tiefling.”
Shenvallei D’ansille: How many guards went in to get her and how many are still in there?
GM: One went in
GM: the others are sifting through the primes.
GM: So, that makes 0 still in there, although there are several that you counted as coming in that you can’t see.
Shenvallei D’ansille: “Al, Im thinking of taking a peek in her room see what they were after.”
Alusair: “Might not be a bad idea.”
Shenvallei D’ansille: Ill quietly open the door, and hide/move silently to her room.
Shenvallei D’ansille: The tieflings room.
GM: Roll them bones, Shen.
Shenvallei D’ansille: sec gotta set it up
Shenvallei D’ansille: Skill [Move Silently] [1d20+10 = 23]
Shenvallei D’ansille: Skill [Hide] [1d20+6 = 8]
You step softly, through the well illuminated hall, to the tiefling’s room.
GM: Nobody seems to take notice of you, however.
You get to the room…fairly standard fare, with one exception… there’s a very large tome sitting on the floor, pages wrinkled and scrunched up.
Shenvallei D’ansille: Ill take it carefully.
GM: You do so
A rather twisted looking dagger falls out of it, seemingly reaching towards your finger as it heads towards the floor.
Shenvallei D’ansille: Ill try to grab it before it hits the floor.
Shenvallei D’ansille: check that.
Shenvallei D’ansille: I dont want to cut myself.
Shenvallei D’ansille: Ill pick it up and then slip back to our room.
GM: You slip back…Move and Hide please!
Shenvallei D’ansille: Skill [Move Silently] [1d20+10 = 25]
Shenvallei D’ansille: Skill [Hide] [1d20+6 = 19]
GM: You sneak back in
Shenvallei D’ansille: I will examine the tome and dagger.
You do so…the tome appears to be an encyclopedia of Gods. The Dagger, on the other hand, seems to be…malicious, and it keeps wanting to twist out of your hand.
An examination of the tome shows that every depiction of a God’s face, icon, or other identifier, has been defaced, cut through, or simply cut out.
The words describing each god all have unique, scribbled additions, mocking their qualities. Indeed, you cannot find a word God in the book that hasnt been cut through and replaced with some other derogatory term.
Shenvallei D’ansille: Ill set the dagger and tome down away from Zero. “Hmm, the tiefling doesnt seem to be much of a devout.”
Alusair: “What do you mean?”
Shenvallei D’ansille: “This book of the gods was in her room clearly defaced. I can only assume it was she that did it.”
Alusair: ”. . . Huh.”
Shenvallei D’ansille: “This dagger as well.”
Shenvallei D’ansille: “An odd looking blade.”
Shenvallei D’ansille: “Well I suppose it will fetch a favor or two in the marketplace at least.”
Alusair: “An unwise proposition.. never sell something if you don’t even know what it is.”
Shenvallei D’ansille: “Ah good point, it may be of some use to us.”
Shenvallei D’ansille: “Do you think it is some sort of ceremonial blade? It looks odd enough.”
Alusair: “Hard to say.. certainly its likely to have been used as such.”
Alusair: “But.. I don’t know, it gives off a foul air. I’d be careful of it.”
Shenvallei D’ansille shrugs and places the dagger in his backpack.
As you stow it in your backpack, there’s a sharp rap on the door.
Shenvallei D’ansille shoots a glance to Alusair.
Shenvallei D’ansille: I fake my voice making it gruffer, “Yeah what do ya want?”
GM: Voice from outside, rather congenial: “Excuse me, but I was wondering if I could nip in and ask a few questions?”
Alusair: Whispered, “Oh, hell.”
Shenvallei D’ansille: Same gruff voice, “Is this Harmonium business?”
Alusair blurs suddenly. Where the paladin once sat now sits a young human girl, perhaps 9 or 10.
GM: “Harmonium business? Of course it is… wait… is that you Jeremy?”
Kiergath (Alusair): Is Jess sitting somewhere, or standing around?
Alex: Sitting on the bed, playing with a dagger.
Shenvallei D’ansille: Disguise self to make me look like a burly black bearded human.
Shenvallei D’ansille: Spell [Disguise Self] -> Changes your appearance.
Alusair: Get up and sit next to her. Watch with all the wide-eyed wonder of a particularly naive child.
GM: You disguise yourselves!
Shenvallei D’ansille: Ill open the door fast as possible looking annoyed, “No! this isnt Jeremy and if you gots questions ye better make em snappay!”
Alusair looks up at Jess, “Mommy, why does daddy have an accent like he’s from southern Mechanus?”
You open the door on a man, barely able to be called such, shorter than your normal self, skinnier, and completely helpless at growing any sort of facial hair. He’s got spectacles, some sort of logbook, and a gleaming breastplate.
Jesebel: “That’s because he’s half machine, sweetie! The southern half…all machine…” (Jess gets all dreamy-eyed)
Alusair blinks several times in quick succession, then says something in Celestial that is definately NOT age appropriate, nor particularly polite.
GM: The man manages to regain his composture. “Oh…sorry sir, so sorry, but I thought you were Jeremy, sir, and he hasnt been around for a while, and I was hoping… but anyway…wow that’s a lot of people in this small room sir… Anyhow, if I can ask a few questions, sir, then I can leave you to your night…”
Shenvallei D’ansille: “Speak!”
“Well, sir, First off, I would like to inquire…” He references his logbook. “What all of your current beliefs are…gods and whatnot… Guvner’s Survey, you see… we’re going throughout Sigil… asking families…You know how it is sir…” He pushes his spectacles back up his nose.
Alusair looks up at Jess, shudders, and goes back to her original chair, glaring back and forth at her and Shen.
Shenvallei D’ansille: “Are you speaking truth man? You want to know what gods we revere? It depends on the situation does it not?”
Alusair lets out another short sentence in Celestial, while facepalming.
Alusair: “Oh, Shen, you stupid mother fucking dolt.”
“I see… Now, a few more questions, if you don’t mind…” He slips past you into the room, inspecting all of your faces.
Shenvallei D’ansille: I shut the door behind him and lock it.
Alusair: Way to be normal…
“Where were all of you…oh… last week, around midday? You see, it’s important for the survey to get a snapshot of each families daily lives…”
Shenvallei D’ansille: I wander over to where the tome is and sit on it.
GM: You don’t quite feel…comfortable.
The weasly looking man looks at you expectantly, Shen, while still inspecting Azuras and Zero with more than cursory glances.
Shenvallei D’ansille: “Look berk, were passing thru Sigil and dont want any issues with the Harmonium. Last week…”
Shenvallei (Shenvallei D’ansille): where were we 7 days ago?
Alusair suddenly bursts into giggles, “Last week I saw daddy with the maid! They were making funny noises.. BUT DON’T TELL ANYONE, OK?” She blinks, clapping a hand over her mouth, “Oh. Oops.”
Alex: As far as I know, you haven’t even been in Sigil a full week, yet.
Shenvallei D’ansille: “Quiet now this is a big persons discussion!”
Alusair sulks, “I was just telling him the truth… I thought thats what you always tell me! Tell the truth!”
Shenvallei D’ansille: “7 days ago? midday, I can barely remember what kind of ale I had for breakfast. Really man it was nothing that had anything to do with you and whatever investigation you are conductng Im sure.”
GM: His eyebrow cocks. “Investigation? Sir, this is merely a Governer mandated Census, conducted Bi-Weekly, with support from the high council! Should I be investigating something?”
His eyebrow cocks. “Investigation? Sir, this is merely a Governer mandated Census, conducted Bi-Weekly, with support from the high council! Should I be investigating something?”
Shenvallei D’ansille: “Census? Well if thats all then you can just put down that we are a family passing through and that will work fine for us both.”
“Very well, then, sir… we can play it like that… Are you from Toril, then?” He stares at you quizzically.
Shenvallei D’ansille: “Aye.”
GM: “Then shall I put you down for ‘No Religious Affiliation’?”
Shenvallei D’ansille: “Where I come from we revere many gods but to save that pen of yours some ink, yes put down ‘No Religious Affiliation’.
Alusair lets out a barely audible whimper.
Censustaker: “Very well then. That’s all I’ll be needing… thank you for your time, and enjoy your stay in Sigil!”
GM: He steps towards the door.
Shenvallei D’ansille: I stand still hiding the book from his view and then show him to the door, unlock it, and let him out.
You do so.
Zero: “I don’t like the looks of that Guvner, I’ll tell you that, straight up.”
Alusair: “That Guvner was Harmonium.”
Alusair: “Specifically, Harmonium on an Athar hunt, and we may be on the menu now.”
Alusair hops back up from her chair, moving towards the door and shifting to her old form as she does so.
Shenvallei D’ansille: “An illusion Al? Impressive.”
Alusair: “Illusion? Not so much.”
Alusair: “But call it what you like.”
Shenvallei D’ansille: “They didnt even get our names, I doubt its a problem.”
Shenvallei, reflex check.
Shenvallei D’ansille: Reflex save [1d20+6 = 11]
Alusair: “They don’t need our names, they know we’re here, and if they ask the barkeep, they’ll know we are usually here.”
GM: [1d8 = 4]
Alusair stands to the side of the door with her back to the wall.
The door explodes inwards, colliding with you, causing 4 points of damage, as a man with a tower shield stands in the doorway, dressed in full plate.
A gruff voice, deeper than Azuras’, belts out “All right, you damn Athar, come along quietly.”
Alusair: “Who dares accuse a paladin of Bast of being Athar? I want yer name b’fore I cut off yer sodding head and use yer neck as a bloody spittoon.”
Shenvallei D’ansille rubs his shoulder where he was struck. “This must be Jeremy.”
“Paladin of Bast? My apologies, ma’am.” He seems genuinely taken aback. “However, we have evidence that you consort with Athars, and as such, must be taken in. The law will judge you more favorably for your devotion, unlike these godless scum.”
Alusair: “What kind of piking fool are you? If they were Athar, I’d’ve dead-booked ‘em myself.”
Alusair: “Common sense, Hardhead, didn’ they teach it to ya in whatever shite-assed academy they breed your kind in?”
Alusair: ”... Ah, hell, I’ve probably blown any chance of this ending well, haven’t I?”
He stares at you through the narrow slit in his helmet.
And backs out the door.
Alusair: “Does this mean we’re nae goin’ ta fight now?”
GM: Reflex checks, everyone.
Alusair looks almost hurt. Briefly.
Shenvallei D’ansille: Reflex save [1d20+6 = 20]
GM: [6d4 = 18]
GM: [1d20 = 10]
Alusair: [1d20+12 = 22]
Alusair: Le sigh
Kiergath (Alusair): Sorry Nick, I think I blew it back there. :)
Kiergath (Alusair): You might still be able to go quietly, though. I’m not sure I can :P
The room explodes in a fireball, centered where the hardhead was just standing. Jess screams in pain, Azuras bellows, and the room at large smolders.
Alusair: “Sod with me, sod with Shen, thats one thing.”
You both managed to duck behind some furnature, but still got singed.
Alusair: “But the girl’s bloody off limits!”
“Step out now, or we will come in and take you by force.”
Alusair: “Tell ya what.”
Shenvallei D’ansille: I motion for Azuras to break the window.
Alusair: “I’ll come out and we can ‘discuss’ this in the hallway, so as to not repeat your earlier indiscretion.”
Alusair prays and lays a hand on Jess briefly.
Shenvallei (Shenvallei D’ansille): how much damage did we take from the fireball?
shatters the window with his staff, trying to clear the razorvine as best he can.
Kiergath (Alusair): Look at the combat tracker.
Azuras shatters the window with his staff, trying to clear the razorvine as best he can.
Alusair: [1d8+5 = 10]
Alusair: Cure light wounds – Jess.
She looks better than she did, but she’s still missing large chunks of hair.
Alusair lingers to cast another spell as soon as possible.
Azuras: “That’s the best I can do.”
GM: Lets get some Inits going here, shall we?
Shenvallei D’ansille: Initiative [1d20+5 = 7]
Alusair: Initiative [1d20+2 = 19]
GM: Alusair, your go
Alusair: Shield Other on Jess.
Alusair: She gains a +1 deflection bonus to AC, +1 bonus to saves, and I get to take half of her damage. 5 hour duration.
Alusair: “Try not to get too far away.”
GM: She nods, in tears.
GM: Shenvallei, your go.
Shenvallei D’ansille: Ill take a peek out the window, is the building surrounded?
Alusair: Why do I get the feeling I should’ve explained to Shen the glories of razorvine? Because I have a sinking feeling he intends to jump.
The building is surrounded with Razorvine, but there appear to be no Harmonium in eyesight.
Shenvallei D’ansille: Free action speak: “Al do we flee or fight?”
Alusair: “You don’t want to try climbing down a razorvine covered wall.”
Alusair: “But if thats the way you want to go…”
Shenvallei D’ansille: On Alusair I will cast a spell:
Shenvallei D’ansille: Spell [Heroism] -> Gives +2 bonus on attack rolls, saves, skill checks.
Kiergath (Alusair): ... Weeee!
GM: You do so. It takes effect!
Shenvallei D’ansille: I brace for the 2nd incomming fireball.
Nothing comes. However, you do pick up a large instake of breath.
Kiergath (Alusair): Well, if nothing else I should get surprise… On several accounts.
Alusair: Draw sword, kiss Jess, and charge out the door. I’m gonna say I probably can’t attack, at that point, but I should at least present a target. :P
GM: You do so.
You find yourself feeling like a hero in a long, dramatic series of portraits, charging out into a hallway, coming face to face with eight fully armed and armored harmonium agents.
You do indeed, present a wonderful target.
Shenvallei D’ansille: Of course I cant see them from my position inside the room correct?
GM: No, you cannot.
Shenvallei (Shenvallei D’ansille): and you call me suicidal!
Shenvallei D’ansille: Spell [Mage Armor] -> Gives subject +4 armor bonus.
Shenvallei D’ansille: On myself Ill cast…
You successfully get the spell off… during your motions, you see Zero dive out the window.
Shenvallei D’ansille: Im about to follow him…
Alusair, you see a tall, uniformed officer stand up behind the wall of Harmonium and unleash a great bellow.
GM: Fortitude Saves.
Alusair: [1d20+13 = 20]
Shenvallei D’ansille: Fortitude save [1d20+3 = 22]
Alusair: +4 more if its fear related.
Alusair: and +2 from Shen’s spell
GM: It’s not fear related, unfortunately.
Alusair: soo.. 22
GM: [1d20 = 12]
The man bellows out, “CEASE, DESIST, AND LAY DOWN YOUR ARMS.”
GM: [5d6 = 12]
Both of your ears ring, slightly, but stand up to the immense pressure, but it still hurts terribly, and physically.
Several glasses shatter, and most of the bar is visibly empty.
GM: Shenvallei, you’re feeling quite worse for the wear.
Alusair: Five foot step, backwards into the doorway!
GM: You dissapear from sight!
Alusair: None of them are in sight from the doorway?
GM: ...well, from their sight.
GM: One of them is
Alusair: Oh? Which one?
Shenvallei D’ansille: map request
GM: The one on the end of the line
Alusair: ...yeah.. map?
Alusair: I don’t care how crude it is, we’ve entered the need for a map
Alusair: ... when did the hallway get that big?
GM: That is more or less the picture, as we can see it…so you’re apt to make out 3…sorry
Alusair: So we’re at the top of the stairway.
Alusair: no more need be said
GM: Any action outside the step?
Alusair: I’m no longer wounded
Alusair: CLW, minimum healing is 6, no point rolling.
Shenvallei D’ansille: Self :
Shenvallei D’ansille: Spell [False Life] -> Gain 1d10 temporary hp +1/level (max +10).
Shenvallei D’ansille: and back up towards the window.
Shenvallei D’ansille: [1d10 = 9]
GM: You do so.
GM: The Harmonium Close on the room.
GM: Due to the maneuvering they have to do, that’s as close as they get.
Alusair: No visible action.
Shenvallei D’ansille: delay
Alusair: [1d8+6 = 9]
GM: Very well.
GM: Shenvallei, you see Azuras over by the window, trying to sooth a screaming Jesebel
GM: The Harmonium Fold in and begin swinging
GM: [1d20+5 = 19]
GM: [1d20 = 19]
Shenvallei (Shenvallei D’ansille): how do I center the map on the action?
The two in range miss, full out.
Alusair: You ask alex to do that
Shenvallei (Shenvallei D’ansille): thanks
GM: And Voila!
GM: Shenvallei, do you do anything with your delayed action?
Shenvallei D’ansille: yes
Kiergath (Alusair): you have to specify, technically, what you’re delaying for.
Kiergath (Alusair): Not what you’re going to DO, but what you’re waiting for to happen
Shenvallei (Shenvallei D’ansille): heh when I said delay I meant for you to delay since you said ‘no visible action’ I didnt mean me
Shenvallei (Shenvallei D’ansille): no worries.
Alusair: Oh. no
Alusair: No delaying here
Alusair: Just like I said, nothing visible :)
Shenvallei D’ansille: hehe ok
Shenvallei D’ansille: anyway
Shenvallei D’ansille: with my action if its my turn I will target the hard head guard behind the one attacking Alusair.
Shenvallei D’ansille: Spell [Deep Slumber] -> Puts 10 HD of creatures to sleep.
GM: You do so…
GM: [2d20 = 23]
GM: [1d20 = 9]
GM: [5d20 = 55]
GM: You hear two thuds you can’t see. Alusair, you see two guards slump over gently onto the floor.
Kiergath (Alusair): Heroism was +2 to hit, Nick?
Shenvallei D’ansille: yes
Shenvallei D’ansille: it says +2 to attack rolls, saves, and skills
Alusair: Bastard Sword +1 (Attack 1) [1d20+12 = 16]
Alusair: movin’ on
GM: [1d20+9 = 21]
GM: [1d20 = 1]
GM: The guards move in, stabbing their swords at you
GM: [1d20 = 17]
GM: [1d10+4 = 12]
GM: One manages to find it’s mark, slipping past the other’s swords.
Alusair: how rude…
Shenvallei D’ansille: Ill pull out one of my scrolls and cast floating disk placing it just out the window sill so that we can just ride it down and avoid the razorvine.
GM: You do so…a floating disk, you are assured, is there.
Alusair: Bastard Sword +1 (Attack 1) [1d20+12 = 18]
Alusair: and a five foot step towards the window.
GM: Your sword is deflected
Shenvallei D’ansille: I hop on the disk and motion Azuras and Jesebel to come with me. And we float down.
GM: You do so…
Shenvallei (Shenvallei D’ansille): Ill be right back for Alusair.
Shenvallei (Shenvallei D’ansille): it only holds 500 lbs
GM: ...It’s pushing it with Azuras on there, but…
GM: [1d4+4 = 6]
GM: You take 3 points coming out the window.
Shenvallei D’ansille: What hit me?
GM: The Razorvine.
GM: The Harmonium start filtering through the doorway
Shenvallei D’ansille: at the bottom I drop off Azuras and Jesebel and float back up to the window if there is time.
GM: You drop them off, and you’ll be up at the end up next round
GM: [1d20+7 = 22]
GM: A swing and a miss from the harmonium agent in the door
Alusair: Bastard Sword +1 (Attack 1) [1d20+12 = 15]
GM: ANd another missing rebuttal
GM: [1d20 = 15]
GM: Shenvallei, you’re on your way up.
GM: [1d20+7 = 24]
GM: [1d20+7 = 16]
GM: You barely swat the first swing out of the way, knocking it into the next incoming blade.
GM: Shenvallei arrives at the window.
Alusair: oot the window
GM: You dive out the window, taking 3 points from the searching razorvine.
Shenvallei D’ansille: Lower the disk down to the ground while I cast Mount from one of my scrolls.
Shenvallei D’ansille: I can move the disk as a free action I beleive.
GM: You head down to the ground.
GM: ANd arrive.
GM: Zero is nowhere to be found, although there is a trail of blood leading into an alley
GM: A horse arrives as you touch down.
Alusair: “I hope someone has a brilliant idea.”
Alusair: [1d8+5 = 12]
Shenvallei D’ansille: “We need a safehouse and fast. They will be out the door any moment.” I cast another mount spell (my last one from my scroll.)
Alusair: currently 3 points down. CLW.
GM: You do so, and a second horse is conjured up.
Azuras: “I am not from here… I wish I could be of assistance, but…”
Shenvallei D’ansille: “I hate to say it but maybe we should go back to Zero’s place just to get out of here for now.” I mount up.
Alusair: I live to cause you headaches!
Alusair: but today, I will not.
Alusair lets out an ear-splitting whistle.
Alusair: Summon warhorse.
GM: You do so.
Shenvallei (Shenvallei D’ansille): thank god you have a horse.
GM: It arrives.
Shenvallei (Shenvallei D’ansille): I wasnt sure if 2 light horses could carry all of us.
Alusair pulls herself up into the saddle.
Kiergath (Alusair): Two light horses and mine still can’t.
Kiergath (Alusair): Azuras. Remember?
Kiergath (Alusair): :P
Azuras places Jesebel on the back of the free horse.
Shenvallei D’ansille: Alex? Can Azuras ride a single light horse?
Azuras: “You three get going…I’ll try and keep up. If not, I can at least slow them down long enough for you to get away.”
Shenvallei D’ansille: Ill take that as a no.
GM: Ride it? Yes. And have the horse go any further than a rocking pony with a broken back? No.
Shenvallei D’ansille: “You are a true friend Azuras.”
GM: Armored figures begin pouring around the corner of the inn.
Alusair: “Time we weren’t here.”
Shenvallei D’ansille: I go.
GM: You go…
GM: Azuras keeps up for the first few turns
GM: But he rapidly begins dropping behind
GM: You ride through the maze that is the Hive, and soon hear clashing of metal and screaming behind you, in the distance.
GM: You double back a few times, and make your way to Zero’s place.
Shenvallei D’ansille: “I have an important question.”
Alusair: “Lets hear it.”
Shenvallei D’ansille: “Could this have all been avoided if I had just said we worshipped the pie god?”
Alusair: “If you’d said, for example, that we worshipped Corellon, Tiamat, or even Bhaal himself, we might have avoided it.”
Alusair: “But no, for the pie god, probably not.”
Alusair: We return to Zero’s?
GM: You find your way inside, discussion the merits of piegodhood, and find the Kobold to be there, and he seems to have lengthened his chain from the door, and is making the front room all his own now.
GM: and yes.
Alusair: Hug the kobold
Alusair: “Has Zero been here?”
GM: Kobold: Nobody here since the Harmonium…
Alusair: “How long ago were the Hardheads here?”
GM: Kobold: Oh, after you died! Zero went nuts, gave me a long chain, and said he wouldn’t be back! Very nice of him, to give I whole place…then Harmonium come and say Zero no come back, and I let them in.
GM: Kobold: So….oh…a week ago?
Alusair: “A week..?”
Shenvallei D’ansille: “Likely when they first searched the place.”
Alusair: Head to zero’s room
GM: You do so
Shenvallei D’ansille: “It makes sense. We were here and found the place upturned before we were at that bar.”
Alusair: “Aye.. we did..”
GM: Zero’s room is still ransacked
Alusair: Check the closets for Zero.
GM: No Zero in the closets
GM: Zero Zeros anywhere
Shenvallei (Shenvallei D’ansille): so we found ‘Less than Zero’?
Alex: You’re in the negatives, that’s for sure :P
Kiergath (Alusair): touche.
GM: You do uncover, in your search, a cabinet full of embroidered black skirts.
Alusair: ”... So thats how he always had a spare.”
Shenvallei D’ansille: I start meditating.
GM: You do so.
Alusair: wander around healing people.
Shenvallei D’ansille: “Thank you Alusair.”
GM: You are able to get a full meditation and rest in uninterrupted
Shenvallei D’ansille: How is Jesebel?
GM: In tears
GM: Very anti-being touched
GM: Hate is in her eyes
GM: ...and she’s shaved the rest of her head
GM: during your meditation
Shenvallei D’ansille: “I am sorry for what happened to you Jesebel. And for it, this must end.”
Alusair: “Damn sodding straight.”
Alusair: “Those eight hardheads are dead men.”
Alusair: “Which is a problem – I won’t recognize ‘em.”
Alusair: “So I’ll have to keep goin’ until I’m sure.”
Shenvallei D’ansille: “She will be in danger as long as she is with us Al. We seem to attract trouble we do.”
Alusair: “So, now that she’s thoroughly associated with us.. you honestly think she’s safer without us?”
Alusair: “I doubt they’ve failed to notice she’s with us.”
Shenvallei D’ansille: “And now look at what she has become. This creature of vengeance and hate that was once our Jesebel.”
Shenvallei D’ansille: “I cannot say what she wants. Did she choose us? No. And if I ask her she will only appease my current thoughts. Let us give her time and then see what it truly is that she wants.”
Alusair: Shen is aggrivating Alusair again… <sigh>
Alusair: ”. . . quite.”
GM: A deep voice rumbles throughout the room. “You want to know what I truly want? Blood. Revenge. Death.”
A deep voice rumbles throughout the room. “You want to know what I truly want? Blood. Revenge. Death.”
Alusair stands up, weapon seeming to leap unbidden into her hand.
Shenvallei D’ansille looks at Jesebel.
Shenvallei D’ansille: “I cannot comprehend your bloodlust Jesebel.”
Alusair: “Its a shame, Shen.. Vengeance really is one of the more noble pursuits.”
Shenvallei D’ansille: “Perhaps it is an aspect of a sense she wishes to explore.”
Alusair looks appraisingly at Jess to ascertain if it was actually her that said that.
Shenvallei D’ansille: “That is part of her order’s path is it not?”
Alusair: “Exploration? Yes… but not usually to other people’s detriment.”
It was her, indeed. She’s standing, and her eyes have taken on an unusual red tint.
Alusair: . . . detect evil.
GM: She does, indeed, slightly detect evil.
Shenvallei D’ansille: I go into my backpack and pull out the dagger we found.
GM: Reflex Check, Shenvallei.
Shenvallei D’ansille: Reflex save [1d20+6 = 13]
You barely dodge the knife’s blade as you stick your hand into your pack, but you draw it successfully.
Shenvallei D’ansille: “Im thinking we sell this thing right away, weve had nothing but bad luck since we found it.”
Alusair: “Now you’re thinking like a Prime.”
Alusair: “This right now is the only thing that could be ascribed to a cursed weapon, so far, since you’ve found it.”
Shenvallei D’ansille: “Maybe, but maybe we need a bit of Prime thinking here.” I throw the dagger against the wall.
Alusair edges her way to the side, watching Jess. She keeps her weapon lowered, but drawn.
GM: The dagger sticks in the wall, hilt first, quivering.
Shenvallei D’ansille: Hilt first?
Kiergath (Alusair): I’m with Nick, that makes no sense.
Alex: It does, if you’d think for a second about the behavior of the knife. Given also that the tip of the hilt is sharp.
Kiergath (Alusair): Fair enough. But you left out that minor detail.
Alex: Ah, sorry.
Kiergath (Alusair): So the quillons are buried in the wall.
Alex: I just didnt know the word for it
Shenvallei D’ansille: Quillons are the things sticking out the side? or a spike at the base of the handle?
Kiergath (Alusair): thats the pommel.
Kiergath (Alusair): the quillons are the guard.
Kiergath (Alusair): in short, the things sticking out to the side.
Shenvallei D’ansille: k
Kiergath (Alusair): :)
Alusair: Pay the knife no mind.. still looking at Jess.. looking somewhat confused, somewhat wary, and very nervous.
She stares at the knife. “You would sell such a beautiful thing? No…such a dagger is not to be sold… it needs to be used… it craves to seek blood…”
Jesebel slowly approaches the knife in the wall.
Alusair: Dart between her and the knife.
Jesebel: “I’ll give it a chance to seek it, yes I will…”
Alusair: Voice still wierd?
Shenvallei D’ansille: “Jesebel, stop.”
GM: Yes, very wierd.
Jesebel wavers for a second, slowing, but keeps pressing on, slowly.
Alusair: Back away from her, at her speed, towards the dagger.
GM: You retreat towards the dagger. It quivers at your approach.
Shenvallei D’ansille: “Awful a friend captured or killed by the Harmonium and Jesebel posessed.”
Alusair: “Shen. Grab. The. Knife. I. Can’t.”
Shenvallei D’ansille yawns.
Shenvallei D’ansille: Spell [Mage Hand] -> 5-pound telekinesis.
Shenvallei D’ansille: pull the dagger to my hand.
GM: You do so. Reflex check.
Shenvallei D’ansille: Reflex save [1d20+6 = 12]
GM: The dagger bites into your finger before you catch it, causing the blade to glow a dim red, and causing 2 points of damage to you
Shenvallei D’ansille: “Ow!”
Alusair: Its a bit of a conflict.. she can respect, even admire, the apparent motivation.
Jesebel snaps her head to Shenvallei, following the path of the blade.
Alusair: Duck infront of Shen.
Shenvallei D’ansille: “And now Ive cut my own hand.” I put the blade back in my backpack.
Jesebel: “Shenvallei, you will give your Jesebel the dagger, won’t you?” This is said in Jesebel’s own voice.
Alusair: ”. . . I guess curses aren’t all that bright after all. If she’d tried that five seconds ago she’d have the sodding knife.”
Shenvallei D’ansille: “We dont have time for this.” Ill cast deep slumber on her.
GM: [1d20 = 6]
GM: Jesebel’s eyes slowly drift shut, but she remains upright, her eyes glowing from behind her eyelids, but she has ceased moving.
Alusair: She’s still at a +1 to saves, keep in mind..
Shenvallei D’ansille: I bind her arms/legs and put a blindfold on her.
GM: What do you bind her arms and legs with?
Shenvallei D’ansille: The rope in my backpack.
Shenvallei D’ansille: Oh let me guess.
Shenvallei D’ansille: Reflex check?
GM: Oh, yes.
GM: You’re getting good at this!
Shenvallei D’ansille: Reflex save [1d20+6 = 7]
Shenvallei D’ansille: Reflex save [AUTOMATIC FAILURE]
GM: [2d4 = 3]
GM: The knife drives into your wrist, causing 3 points of damage, and you incur one point of temporary CON damage.
Shenvallei D’ansille stumbles and turns pale pulling a bloody hand out of his backpack along with some rope.
Alusair: hopefully it hasn’t taken out your rope..
Shenvallei D’ansille: “No, rope doesnt bleed.”
GM: Oh, the rope is alive. Slightly frayed and bloody, but it made it’s reflex check.
Alusair: walk over to shen
Alusair: Poke him in the nose
Alusair: Lesser Restoration
GM: You do so. He is restored!
Alusair: Paladin 1
Alusair: repairs 1d4 ability damage
Alusair: I don’t see a need to roll :P
GM: No, no you don’t.
Shenvallei D’ansille takes a deep breath and the color returns to his face.
Shenvallei D’ansille nods in thanks to Alusair.
Shenvallei D’ansille: I bind/blindfold Jesebel.
GM: you do so.
Shenvallei D’ansille: I search her.
GM: Care to make a use rope, just to be thorough?
Shenvallei D’ansille: Skill [Search] [1d20+7 = 18]
Shenvallei D’ansille: Skill [Use Rope] [1d20+5 = 15]
GM: You uncover several daggers you hadnt seen her buy, but they don’t seem special. She doesn’t have anything other than her collar and the equipment you bought for her.
Alusair: Sit next to the prone Jess, sword laying across my knees and chin resting firmly on my hands,, kind’ve perplexed and a little worried.
Alusair: “So.. what do we do?”
GM: Her eyes are glowing, even through the blindfold
Shenvallei D’ansille: “I was hoping you had an answer to that.”
Alusair: ”. . . in most cases, I would. You wouldn’t like it, and neither would I.”
Kiergath (Alusair): :P
Shenvallei D’ansille: Alex Ill attempt to learn what kind of creature possesses others as to what this might be.
GM: You do so…
GM: Do you have any relevant knowledge?
Shenvallei D’ansille: Skill [Knowledge (The Planes)] [1d20+10 = 24]
Shenvallei D’ansille: if that helps.
Alusair: Skill [Knowledge (Fiends)] [1d20+5 = 15]
Alusair: if that helps!
Shenvallei D’ansille: Skill [Knowledge (Dungeon Creatures)] [1d20+8 = 20]
GM: You recall a lesson your master taught you, Shenvallei, about being careful to guard your feelings when you were travelling in the Planes, for vengeful spirits are attracted to feelings. The stronger the feeling, the greater the attraction.
You smell a bit of brimstone, but that could have been from Zero’s toothpaste. He gets it imported special.
Shenvallei D’ansille: “Emotion may be the catalyst.”
Shenvallei D’ansille: “I dont like the idea of bargaining with a spirit for Jesebel to gain what small semblance of freedom she has back.”
Alusair: “If its not actually a curse, and that seems to be the indication.. I can’t do anything.”
Alusair shifts her eyes towards Shen, “Oh? Then what exactly is your idea?”
Shenvallei D’ansille: “The thing must be purged. And for that I fear we need help. Do you know of anyone in the city that would lend their skill in an excorcism?”
Alusair: “Sure. Got jink?”
Shenvallei D’ansille: “Jink?”
Shenvallei D’ansille: “You mean coin?”
Alusair takes one hand from her chin, rubs thumb and forefinger together, “Aye.”
Shenvallei D’ansille: “I seem to recall us having quite a bit stored at Van’s.”
Alusair: “I don’t..”
Shenvallei D’ansille: “I think we left it there after our ordeal in Chult with the Babau demon.”
Alusair: “Didn’t know we had any to leave there..”
Shenvallei D’ansille: “I remember it being mostly copper and gold. I seem to be a bit light on coin at the moment let me see…”
Shenvallei (Shenvallei D’ansille): I never kept track of my money this whole time :( I have no idea how much I have.
Kiergath (Alusair): I’ve got less than a hundred gold.
Kiergath (Alusair): and its all on me.
Shenvallei (Shenvallei D’ansille): my char sheet says zero because I think it was on the original one that was lost.
Kiergath (Alusair): you wouldn’t have had much more if any than I do.
Kiergath (Alusair): point is, we’re broke :P
Shenvallei (Shenvallei D’ansille): you guys around tommorrow night perhaps?
Kiergath (Alusair): maybe so.
Kiergath (Alusair): But I agree, its time to call it.
Kiergath (Alusair): Eerrr, whats what you were getting at, right?
Kiergath (Alusair): :P
Shenvallei (Shenvallei D’ansille): I think so, I have work in 5 hours.
Alex: Sure thing
Kiergath (Alusair): jesus christ, why are you still here? :P
Alusair: yeahhhh…. :P
Shenvallei (Shenvallei D’ansille): Because I freaking love this campaign.
Shenvallei (Shenvallei D’ansille): good night guys. Ill figure out my money tommorrow.
Kiergath (Alusair): Night, chief.
Shenvallei (Shenvallei D’ansille): if not Alex can just give me an arbitrary number.
Where our intrepid heroes are interrogated, manage to upset some Athar hunting Harmonium and get embroiled in a fierce brawl, during which Zero escapes, Jesebel loses the rest of her hair and most of her sanity, and Azuras makes a noble sacrafice. Jesebel became seemingly posessed by the Spirit of Revenge, desiring a Knife which actively seeks out blood.
