Session Three One

Shenvallei: k so
Kiergath: HAIL TO THEE, NEIGHBORLY TYPES
Arothir: Hallo!
Shenvallei: Greetings.
Shenvallei: Do I get new skill points at 3rd?
Kiergath: yes
Kiergath: you get skill points every level
Shenvallei: how many
Kiergath: mage, yeah?
Shenvallei: aye wizard
Kiergath: 2 + your int modifier
Kiergath: so.. 6?
Kiergath: You also get a new feat
Kiergath: your base saves are +1 / +1 / +3 fort / reflex / will
Shenvallei: yeah… I have no idea which one to pick
Shenvallei: because I get another feat at 4th
Kiergath: not so much
Kiergath: wizards fet a bonus feat every 5
Kiergath: get
Kiergath: at 4th you get a point to put into a stat
Shenvallei: oh right
Shenvallei: ok that makes it simpler then
Shenvallei: let me do my skills first
Shenvallei: what is the max amount of points I can put into a skill
Kiergath: should be 6 at level 3.
Shenvallei: so double your level?
Shenvallei: and for non class skills half/level right
Kiergath: not so much.
Kiergath: its 4 at level 1
Kiergath: and goes up 1 each level
Shenvallei: and it costs 1 for 1 on class skills and .5 to 1 on non-class for point spending
Kiergath: aye
Shenvallei: hmm ok so that means my max ranks will be 8 at level 5
Kiergath: yes.
Shenvallei: afk a bit
Kiergath: oh.. alex..
Arothir: Yeah?
Kiergath: have craft (weaponsmithing)... going to be taking a look at that fang and how best to go about making something useful out of it
Kiergath: at some point.
Kiergath: you say its a fairly good size for a shortsword?
Arothir: yeah, it is.
Shenvallei: ok heres my dilema
Arothir: a Dilemma! Oh noes!
Shenvallei: Im hell bent on eventually getting the wild mage prestige class
Shenvallei: its in the complete arcane players guide and is a 3.5 version
Arothir: Yeah, I’m familiar with it.
Kiergath: Hmm
Shenvallei: its requirements are 8 ranks in spellcraft and a few others
Kiergath: mm… tanar’ri wild mages..
Arothir: Ppsh.
Arothir: Xaosect wild mages are bettr
Kiergath: pure chaos
Kiergath: ...nah..
Arothir: ‘cos that’s the only way they can control their spells
Arothir: :P
Kiergath: a xaositect is only as chaotic as the person has the means or inclination to be
Kiergath: a tanar’ri is chaotic by its very nature.
Kiergath: the thing to do
Kiergath: would be to get a tanar’ri wild mage to JOIN the chaosmen
Arothir: pry
Kiergath: and then inflict it on the guvners
Kiergath: :P
Kiergath: lord
Kiergath: what would the guvners or the mathemeticians do with one of those..
Shenvallei: so my question is it says requirements are any metamagic feat and 8 ranks in spellcraft. So can I upon reaching level 5 level INTO a the wildmage class taking the required skills or is it a prereq? It doesnt say prereq it just says req.
Kiergath: probably leave sigil
Shenvallei: I need to know in order to determine my level 3 feat
Kiergath: its a pre-req.
Kiergath: you’d need the level 8 in spellcraft before being able to take the wildmage class
Arothir: Yeah
Shenvallei: ok so that means minimum a character would have to be level 6
Kiergath: Or you’d’ve had to have taken Skill Focus or something similar
Kiergath: and put it into spellcraft
Kiergath: to get to 8 earlier
Shenvallei: oh right. not going to do that though
Arothir: As soon as you finish your Prereqs, your next level can be into the PC
Shenvallei: ok and if I multi-class and level up in a different class, my class skills change for that level up in respect to maximums?
Shenvallei: like if I was to level up in thief right now
Kiergath: ...Hard one to figure. I don’t know withou studying it
Kiergath: lol
Kiergath: But I *THINK
maximums is based on total character level
Arothir: yeah
Arothir: it is
Kiergath: So if you took a level in thief, your max would be (whatever)
Arothir: It would make sense to be, anyway
Kiergath: but your core and cross-class skills would change
Shenvallei: so I could spend 1 for 1 on wizard skills even if I leveled up in thief?
Kiergath: No
Kiergath: If you leveled as a thief this time, your wizard skills would become 1 – .5
Kiergath: as far as I am aware
Kiergath: but again, I am not 100% sure on this
Shenvallei: ok but my maximums would still be 8 at level 6
Kiergath: multiclassing in 3e/3.5 is retarded
Kiergath: err, maximum at 6 would be 9.
Shenvallei: oh right
Shenvallei: thats what I meant
Shenvallei: perfect then
Kiergath: alex, you’re the one doing the DMing, why aren’t you answering more of these questinos
Shenvallei: Ill level wizard to 3rd then thief to 1st then wizard to 4th and then take wild mage at 1st
Arothir: ‘cos
Arothir: You know the hardcore rules better
Kiergath: ugh
Kiergath: lol
Kiergath: the funny part is.. I’m learning them as I go along from DMing my main group
Kiergath: its amazing how many things we do wrong
Arothir: oh?
Kiergath: because people keep using 2nd ed interpretations
Kiergath: or “house rules”
Kiergath: not we US
Kiergath: we THEM
Kiergath: and.. yeah.. its been interesting
Kiergath: I finally got around to nerfing prayer back to by-the-book last friday, for one
Kiergath: ... ironically, NWN is what got me to notice we did it wrong
Kiergath: my friday night group basically plays Prayer like an aura. But it isn’t.
Kiergath: It only affects things in the area of effect at the INSTANT it is cast
Shenvallei: darn the only drawback to my plan is I lose my wizard 5th level bonus feat right?
Kiergath: ..yeah
Kiergath: cos you won’t be a L5 wizard
Kiergath: you also won’t have the spells of a level 5 wizard, you’ll have the spells of a level 4 wizard
Arothir: lol
Shenvallei: no it says your spells level as a wizard normally when you advance in wild mage, im not worried about that.
Kiergath: sorry, thought you meant by leveling as a thief this time
Shenvallei: oh yeah I knew about that.
Shenvallei: well Ill figure it out later
Shenvallei: I know for sure I want to level up in wizard this time
Kiergath: level 2 spells are nice to have
Arothir: They are
Arothir: Aren’t they?
Kiergath: very much so
Shenvallei: ok and we are only using metamagic feats from the 3.5 phb aye
Kiergath: feats I’d say ask on a case by case
Kiergath: We’re just worried about spells getting in we don’t know about
Arothir: Yeah
Kiergath: hmmmmmmm
Arothir: That’s certainly interesting…
Arothir: Hmm
Arothir: How are we doing?
Shenvallei: good just reading the feats, most everything in the arcane book is for high level
Shenvallei: Im probably going to take extend spell
Arothir: Yes?
Arothir: Which spell are you extending?
Arothir: I can’t remember exactly how it works, but I think it works like that.
Shenvallei: it doubles the duration of any spell. It just costs 1 spell level higher in order to memorize
Shenvallei: so charm person extended would be a level 2 spell
Kiergath: jep
Arothir: Ah, thats right
Arothir: I remember now, from NWN
Arothir: Hrm
Arothir: Quack quack quack
Kiergath: lalala
Arothir: So, while you’re finishing up, Nick
Arothir: We can continue with the non-combat portion of the campaign, most likely.
Arothir: If you’re up for it, that is
Kiergath: la?
Kiergath: I’m not entirely sure
Kiergath: but weren’t we mostly RTB?
Arothir: Hm?
Arothir: Yeah, you were
Arothir: Just outside the entrance, in fact
Kiergath: so.. get hence to base
Arothir: You hence yourselves
Kiergath: keep Tim KO’d or blindfolded
Kiergath: :P
Arothir: Running as fast as your little legs will carry you
Arothir: You arrive at Zero’s safehouse, and a short few annoying questions later, you are in the sanctity which is provided by the man’s little common area
Kiergath: Keep Tim knocked out.
Kiergath: And blindfolded.
Arothir: On the table, there are two sandwiches, one skewered with a rose
Arothir: and a note.
Kiergath: ”...”
Kiergath: look at the note
Alusair: because notes aremore important than sammiches
Arothir: The note reads: Gone out for more bread. Be back soon.
Arothir: It’s signed with the traditional Z-> Flower
Alusair: ”...”
Alusair: Leave Tim blindfolded and knocked out
Alusair: and sleep
Arothir: You sleep.
Arothir: I assume Shen sleeps/memorizes spells as well
Shenvallei: (aye Ill be done in a moment, phone call.)
Arothir: Upon waking up, you hear some shuffling in the other room
Shenvallei: (Ill give you my new spell list as well.)
Arothir: (Sure thing.)
Alusair: return to the other room
Arothir: You do so
Arothir: You see a bandaged Tim, with a sandwich stuffed in his mouth instead of a gag, still bound on the floor.
Arothir: Zero is dragging a heavy sack over towards the cabinet he pulled your skirt from
Alusair: Untie tim’s hands..
Alusair: “Sorry for leaving him on your floor.. but we couldn’t really leave him where we found him.”
Alusair: “So.. we brought him with us.”
Arothir: Zero: Oh, that’s completely understandable.
Arothir: Spot check
Alusair: [1d20<!- Official Roll ->] => [13] = (13)
Alusair: +...
Alusair: stuff.
Arothir: Oh, +stuff, eh?
Alusair: 5
Arothir: You notice the back of Zero’s pant leg is torn, and there appears to be a bit of…brick… embedded in a minor wound he hasn’t seemed to have stopped to take time to mend yet.
Alusair: Look like brick I’m familiar with, by any chance?
Alusair: :P
Arothir: He stoops over to rummage about in the sack he was dragging and tosses you two small sacks
Arothir: Yeah.
Arothir: Very fast travelling brick, in fact.
Arothir: Tim is sitting up, hungrily gnawing on the sandwich, rather quietly for a fat man
Arothir: Spot check
Alusair: [1d20<!- Official Roll ->] => [11] = (11)
Arothir: You notice a little hole down by where the sack went
Arothir: A perfect little half circle in the wall
Arothir: as well as a trail of yellow crumbs leading to it
Alusair: ”...”
Alusair: “So.. watching our little .. scout.. were you? See anything interesting, or just catch some of the stonework?”
Arothir: “Me? Oh, no, I was out letting some berk INTO Carceri…odd time to want to go there..when a bloody chimney came crashing down, crushed him, and tore up a bit of my leg. Odd things are happening lately, eh?”
Arothir: “How did your little foray go?”
Alusair: “Oh.. you know.. rather explosively.”
Alusair: “Sorry about the chimney, by the way.”
Shenvallei: (so I did my spells/skills/feats, did I miss anything?)
Arothir: (Not anything you can’t read up on)
Arothir: Zero shrugs it off
Shenvallei: (hit points?)
Arothir: Roll ‘em
Arothir: if you aren’t happy, I’ll roll ‘em for you
Arothir: I did for Morgan
Arothir: :P
Shenvallei: ok good the best of 2 rolls
Shenvallei: [1d4<!- Official Roll ->] => [3] = (3)
Shenvallei: thats fine
Arothir: Alrighty
Alusair: I rolled a 3 too
Alusair: ...
Alusair: I was using a d10, though
Alusair: :P
Arothir: lol
Shenvallei: hehe
Alusair: “Left your little rose, as well..”
Shenvallei: ok emailing you my updated char with spell list ect.
Alusair: “Shen should still have a few bottles from their stock, though.. and I believe you wanted this.”
Arothir: “So…to what purpose did you bring a member of the Harmonium into my humble abode?” Zero stares at you, accusingly, as if you had crossed some sort of line, and you catch the fact that he’s holding what you can only assume to be Tim’s declaration of employment.
  • Alusair takes out the red bottle and puts it on Zero’s table/desk/thing. *
Arothir: The anger mosly dissapates from Zero’s face
Arothir: “Ooh…I’ve been looking for that…for…a while now…”
Alusair: “If you’re quite finished glaring at me… he was blindfolded and out cold for the entire trip, he didn’t see or hear anything until he woke up in this room.”
Arothir: “Good. You’re lucky I figured you could explain, that’s why I kept him alive.”
Alusair: “And you have this man in part to thank for all those ID papers I’ve given you.”
Alusair: ”. . . in a manner of speaking, anyway.”
Arothir: “Ah, so this is the bubber who keeps turning up with all those deaders…”
Arothir: ”...the collectors send their thanks, by the way.”
    Alusair: “I thought they might.”
Alusair: “Can’t stand to waste a kill.”
Arothir: He advances to the bottle and stares at it for a time
  • Shenvallei pulls out the wine bottles from the bar and places them on the table. *
Arothir: Tim attempts to stand up, but he deigns it better to sit down instead, having finished his sandwich
Alusair: “And I doubt Tim’s liable to hand anyone over to the Hard-heads even if he could… we found him tied to a table with one of ‘em dancing a knife over his gut.”
Arothir: Zero: Is that so? Well then, haven’t we found ourselves a little troublemaker…
Arothir: Tim: Honestly, I just told them what you told me! I didn’t do anything wrong!
    Alusair: “Oops.”
Arothir: Tim: I came back to the bar, and those thugs walked in and tied me down!
Arothir: Do you put your special bottle down, Shen?
Alusair: “Its all right, Tim.. they’re all dead.”
Alusair: “Just wish I’d checked for papers.. Zero here is getting quite a collection.”
    Arothir: He nods
Arothir: “That’s what the payment is for, by the by…”
Arothir: He nods at the bags on the table
    Alusair: “Payment?”
Shenvallei: “Did they say anything of why they were about to torture you? I would have watched but their methods were crude and Al here shares the better part of our judgement.”
Alusair: “Oh, Zero. I have a.. favor.. to ask of you.. I’ll understand if it can’t be done, though..”
    Alusair: ( brb.. )
Arothir: “Yeah..some boys of mine needed into the Guardhouse, and those papers did the trick. Don’t know what they wanted, though. Paid a fortune for them.”
Arothir: Tim: They said they had had it with my lying, meddling ways! That I was costing Havrm time and resources! That I needed to be removed!
Arothir: Tim: They wanted to know who you were but I didn’t tell them! Even when Llaryn showed up!
Shenvallei: “Which one exactly was Llaryn?”
Arothir: Tim: He left before you two came in and saved me. Thank you! THANK YOU!
    Arothir: He starts sobbing
Shenvallei: “And do you realize that they had cages of fiends in a portal in the bar ready to release them? Do you approve of this? Im asking because I want to know if you are evil or just plain gullible.”
Arothir: Tim: What? Fiends? Cages? I had no idea! I was just hired by Llaryn to make sure that the bar got turned into a headquarters!
Alusair: “Tim may be misguided.. but I doubt he’d do something like that..”
Shenvallei: “Lucky for him…” I draw my dagger and twirl it in my hand.
Arothir: He bursts into tears again
Alusair: “Oi! None of that, now.”
Arothir: Zero’s just staring at the red bottle, silently
Alusair: “So, Zero.. gonna tell us whats in there?”
Arothir: “Only the most valuable Liquor in all of Sigil. This is the only bottle in existance, and there never will be another one made. And to think, it almost exploded last night…”
Shenvallei: “Oh this one too please Zero if you know.” I pull out the bottle that gives me the sensation of the ocean.
Arothir: He blinks and looks at the bottle you’re holding
Arothir: “What do you take me for, some bubber? I’ll take a look..”
Shenvallei: I place it on the table next to the other wine bottles.
Shenvallei: (you got my email yes?)
Arothir: He pulls the cork on the bottle to get a good smell of it, but he is blown backwards by a spray of water which hits him in the face, spraying up to the cieling.
    Arothir: Yeah, i got it.
Arothir: The sound of the tiny stream of water is like the roar of the ocean
    Shenvallei: “Gah recork it!”
Alusair: ”... Haven’t seen something like that for a.. well.. ever. Some kind’ve portal?”
    Arothir: “It must be!”
Arothir: Zero rights himself and makes a run for the bottle, rushing to cork it
Arothir: He knocks it over in his rush, as the hand he tries to cork it with is the hand he attempts to hold the bottle with, causing Tim to get sprayed with a faceful of salt water, before the bottle rockets backwards, leaving a dent next to the door next to Alusair’s room, where it remains planted, horizontal to the floor, pressed up against the wall, spraying a stream of salt water into the crying Tim’s face until he collapses backwards in hysterics.
Arothir: There is already a thin layer of water on the floor
Arothir: You hear a frantic squeak, and suddenly, after a fit of scurrying, there is a familiar rat, sitting next to Luna on top of the dresser
Arothir: Zero turns to Alusair and shrugs the shoulder affixed to his good arm and tosses the cork at her.
    Alusair: grab it
    Alusair: and plug it
    Arothir: Str check!
    Alusair: [1d20<!- Official Roll ->] => [3] = (3)
    Alusair: ...
  • Alusair gets blown across the room *
    Arothir: LOL
    Arothir: nice.
  • Alusair throws the cork to Shenvallei, “YOU do it!” *
    Arothir: 2 points of damage
    Shenvallei: “What an amazing item!”
    Alusair: “CORK IT”
Shenvallei: I try to sidestep the stream and brace the bottle against the wall and cork it.
    Arothir: STR CHECK!
Shenvallei: I have use magic device if that helps.
    Shenvallei: [1d20<!- Official Roll ->] => [9] = (9)
    Arothir: It’s a bottle :P
Alusair: yeah.. activating it isn’t a problem
    Alusair: :P
Arothir: Shen, holding on to the bottle, brings the cork near to the neck, and his hand gets blown back, almost causing him to lose his balance. He regains for a second attempt!
Alusair: “I’m going to drown.. in a wine bottle full of salt water.”
    Shenvallei: Try again.
  • Alusair lays there slumped against the wall. *
    Shenvallei: [1d20<!- Official Roll ->] => [15] = (15)
Arothir: Shenvallei, in a stunning display of courage, bravery, and a non-willingness to drown, slams the bottle shut
Arothir: The bottle tumbles to the floor, splashing in the inch of water that now is covering the floor.
  • Shenvallei looks shocked that he was actually able to close it. Then begins laughing. “Al! hahaha oh Al are you alright? Im sorry to laugh. Hahahahaha!” *
    Alusair: “Pike it, berk.”
  • Alusair wrings out her tunic. *
Arothir: Zero looks wet and miserable
    Arothir: Tim is unconcious again
    Alusair: LOL.
Shenvallei: “Zero Im sorry about your home. Ill help clean it of course.”
Arothir: Zero sighs. “Look, next time you find a bottle which opens a portal to the seas of your homeworld, Prime, open it in your own house.”
Shenvallei: Do I still see that rat?
    Arothir: Yeah
Arothir: The rat’s still cowering on the top of the cupboard
Alusair: after all.. the cat’s last standing orders were NOT to eat the rat
    Arothir: Yep
Shenvallei: “Hey buddy, hmm.” Cast detect magic on the rat.
Arothir: The rat is, indeed, magic
    Arothir: ...ish
    Arothir: The spell is confused.
Arothir: It reads the rat as magic, then as not.
  • Alusair looks around, realizes she’s losing the battle to get the water out of her clothes, and takes advantage of the salt water to rince off the blood. *
    Shenvallei: Spellcraft to determine why?
    Arothir: Roll it.
    Shenvallei: [1d20<!- Official Roll ->] => [13] = (13)
    Shenvallei: +alot
    Shenvallei: +12
Arothir: You’ve heard of normal creatures being magically gifted enhanced gifts, but they only can be imbued with enhancements to their innate traits. The rat seems to have been made somewhat docile, with a massively increased survival instinct.
    Shenvallei: “Hmm.”
    Alusair: Hmm…
Alusair: I’m considering opening the door out of the room to the entry hall..
Alusair: and then opening the first door we were shown to get to zero
Alusair: and creating a self renewing waterfall
    Alusair: :P
    Arothir: lawl
Arothir: That’d be interesting, to say the least
    Arothir: :P
Alusair: With a bit of re-decorating..
Alusair: and making cutting a channel to funnel the water in and out..
Alusair: it could look really neat..
    Alusair: and maybe*
Alusair: “So Zero.. about the favor I was gonna ask..”
    Alusair: “I know its alot…”
