Session Six One

Shenvallei (enter): 19:44
Attempting to assign the role of GM to Arothir…
Attempting to assign the role of PLAYER to Shenvallei…
Shenvallei: I havent spoken to Morgan today.
Shenvallei: Is there a rule for exchanging feats?
Arothir: Why, you fed up with your Metamagic feat?
Shenvallei: Not completely. Heighten spell seems much more useful though than the one I took.
Shenvallei: I will have to decide.
Arothir: Ahh, then by all means.
Arothir: I’ll allow a feat transfer
Shenvallei: Im going to leave it as is for now.
Arothir: But don’t make it a habit :)
Kiergath (enter): 19:48
Shenvallei: yeah its not fair, Ive already used it so.
Shenvallei: Ill stick with it.
Kiergath: sorry, was checking PDFs and I didn’t want to piss off my comp by doing too much
Shenvallei: WB
Kiergath: mornin’ Nick.
Arothir: Allo
Attempting to assign the role of PLAYER to Kiergath…
Arothir: Hmm
Shenvallei: mages get a new feat at 4th?
Kiergath: maybe. I don’t know.
Arothir: Me neither
Kiergath: I thought they got a bonus metamagic feat every 5?
Shenvallei: yeah its 5th.
Kiergath: err, metamagic or item creation
Shenvallei: and lets see I get a new normal feat at 6?
Kiergath: 3, 6, 9, tec
Kiergath: etc
Kiergath: + to stat at 4, 8, 12, etc
Shenvallei: Argh ok
Arothir: Poor Shen
Arothir: :P
Shenvallei: yeah I screwed up
Shenvallei: I should have waited till 5th to take my metamagic feat
Arothir: lol
Arothir: I’ll overlook it if you want to change it out
Arothir: You haven’t really used extend spell
Shenvallei: does weapon finesse account for damage or just to hit.
Kiergath: just to hit
Shenvallei: well I used it 1 time Alex for charm person on Pinkerton
Kiergath: I don’t think anyone noticed
Shenvallei: but it didnt really matter since Al cut him in half
Kiergath: Its still a ridiculous duration
Kiergath: yeah, sorry about that. I know he was a great guy and all
Shenvallei: dominate is worse
Arothir: lol
Kiergath: no doubt he had children to feed
Arothir: Well, plus, Charm person…well…That has…an hour/level duration
Arothir: AFAIK
Kiergath: uh
Kiergath: charm monster, at least, is 1 day / level
Arothir: I think person is shorter
Kiergath: and I think they’re the same
Kiergath: Sec.
Arothir: I remember looking it up
Arothir: when he used it
Arothir: to check
Shenvallei: dominate is 1 day per level
Kiergath: ah, k, yeah, it is
Kiergath: I just have the stats for CM written down
Arothir: lol
Arothir: Hmmm
Arothir: Mmkay
Arothir: When last we met, a bomb has been defused
Arothir: Jack Bauer has left the building
Arothir: and the world is recovering
Shenvallei: yes. I will continue to sit at the table and pull out my own book and begin reading just like the gnome for a time. (afk 10 before we start.)
Arothir: Alright
Arothir: Van seems on the order of flagging down the waitress for another drink, but he thinks better of it
Kiergath: Where had the conversation halted? lol
Arothir: Uh
Arothir: sec
Arothir: (20638) Arothir: In a second, you see his legs tense up, then he springs upward, twisting his body in mid air, planting his feet on the cieling, pushing off, leaping over to the bar, getting a mug, then he leaps over the crowd of people to teeter precariously on the back of his chair, almost spilling the water before hopping down and putting a full glass of water down on the table.

Arothir: (20646) Shenvallei: “That took a lot of training I can tell.”

Alusair: Huh.
Arothir: (20638) Arothir: Van: More than you would believe, really… but it does come in handy, sometimes. Not so good for repainting a house, though…

Arothir: Hm?
Arothir: Last line of dialogue
Alusair: kay
Arothir: Van: So…I never really asked… what are you two doing here in Sigil?
Alusair: “Live ‘ere.. nowhere else ta be.”
Alusair: “Causing trouble.. following Shen.. keeping him out of trouble.”
Arothir: He smiles and nods
Arothir: “Based on what I’ve seen, that’s quite a lot of trouble you’re keeping him out of…”
Alusair: “Keeps things interesting…”
Arothir: Jess rolls her eyes, detectable despite not looking at them
Alusair: I don’t really have the angle
Alusair: :P
Arothir: Yep.
Arothir: Van: Also, I find good friends keep things interesting… you know, give you a reason to keep fighting.
Alusair: “Gods know thats an important thing to have now and then..”
  • Shenvallei sets down his book open faced. “I agree wholeheartedly Van. Are you working on any particular commissions or jobs at the moment?” *

Arothir: Van grins. “I make my own work, for the most part… but I did run into an elderly fellow who needed some work done.”
Arothir: “I would have helped him out…but… er…” He casts a glance at the gnome. “He’s…biased.”
  • Shenvallei pulls open his vest and Luna leaps out of the extra-dimentional space onto his lap. “Well I wouldnt mind paying him a visit. Unless you had other plans Al. Im sure theres still much to see here in Sigil.” *
Arothir: He gives you somewhat long winded directions to get there
    Arothir: stopping and starting occasionally
    Alusair: “Plans? Merh?”
Arothir: The only word for the sound which eminates from Jess
    Arothir: is a Sniggle
    Alusair: ...
    scratches head
    Alusair: I comprehend, actually.
    Arothir: Snigger/giggle
    Arothir: :P
    Alusair: yeah
    Arothir: Because…well…Gigger sounds…stupid
    Alusair: I know the sound.
    Arothir: Any’oo
Alusair: “Up to you, Shen.. I’m a chaperone, not a bleedin’ tout.”
Shenvallei: “Lets go then, I could use some fresh air.”
    Shenvallei: I stand and stretch.
    Alusair: “Wait, wot?”
Shenvallei: “You know walk a bit, stretch the legs. Sitting too long makes me feel trapped.”
Arothir: Van winces at the word trapped.
    Arothir: He stands up
  • Shenvallei gathers his belongings *
Arothir: “Well, if you two don’t mind, I’ll meet you at the man’s place…I’m just going to escort my lady home.”
    Shenvallei: “Not at all.”
    Alusair: “Ah, well..”
Shenvallei: “Are you both ready to leave now?” To Jesebel and Alusair.
Arothir: He excuses himself with a slight bow and takes the gnome outside
  • Alusair sighs *
Arothir: Jess: I’m always ready to leave, Shenny.
  • Alusair gets up, picks up her sword where its leaning against the table and buckles it onto her baldric. *
Arothir: It appears that Van forgot his sword, which is currently sitting atop the table
Shenvallei: “Oh dear, he forgot his blade.”
    Alusair: “Right..”
  • Alusair picks it up, shifts her own to her side and slings Van’s across her back. *
    Alusair: “Shall we, then…?”
Shenvallei: I walk towards the door.
    Alusair: Follow Shen.
Arothir: You manage to squeak through the crowds
    Shenvallei: And follow Vans directions.
Shenvallei: If its crowded I carry Luna.
Alusair: if its crowded, Luna can probably beat us to the damn door
Arothir: You follow directions, somewhat lost, and it appears you loop around a building twice
    Arothir: Yep.
Shenvallei: Dont want her getting stepped on.
Arothir: Oddly enough, so does Jess
Arothir: You arrive at…well…a rather rundown building
Arothir: On the stoop appears to be multiple empty bowls of various quality
Arothir: The door is half off its hinges
    Alusair: ”. . . real classy kip.”
    Shenvallei: Anywhere clean to sit?
    Arothir: Not particularly
Shenvallei: “Al you mind showing me some of your sword skill? Ive been meaning to take up the blade at some point.”
Alusair: “At some point, certainly… this doesn’t seem to be the place, though.”
Shenvallei: “Have to wait for Van anyway. Later is fine though.”
Shenvallei: Ill look around and observe the area.
Alusair: remove Van’s blade from my belt, offer it still sheathed to Shen, “Suppose you’re right.”
    Arothir: You observe the area
    Shenvallei: Ill take the weapon.
    Arothir: You do so.
Arothir: Shen, it’s a bit heavier than you’re used to holding.
Shenvallei: What kind of blade is it?
Arothir: It’s a broadsword, very ordinary
    Arothir: Just…heavier
Shenvallei: Oh a broadsword… “Wow my wrists dont seem to be able to support this thing.”
    Alusair: martial weapon, nah elf.
Shenvallei: I get longsword not broad right?
    Alusair: yeah.
Alusair: elves are long and rapier
Alusair: Then again.. don’t you have one you bought from the fiend?
Shenvallei: Ill carefully put Van’s broadsword down near us and draw my black saber I bought. “Havent had a chance to test this out.”
Shenvallei: “Well I mean Id like to actually learn to use this.”
  • Alusair draws her own blade, and shrugs, “Interesting piece of metal, there.” *
Shenvallei: I assume a basic fighting stance from my younger training in my home village.
    Arothir: You do so
    Arothir: You two begin sparring?
    Alusair: Yep.. Full defensive.
    Arothir: Alright.
Shenvallei: Ill take a few swings thru the air to get a feel for the blade and then yes will try to land a flat blade hit on Al.”
    Shenvallei: minus the “
Arothir: Shen, you begin to remember the basics
Arothir: As you bring your blade around for a clean swing, right after it is parried, you two ear an explosion of wood as the door is kicked off its hinges. Standing in the doorway is an old man, white hair with patches of yellow, dressed in the outfit of a distinguished gentleman, gripping what appears to be a broomhandle in both hands at waist level, pointed at the both of you. “What in Sam’s Hells are you two doin’ out here?!”
Alusair: “Should think thats fairly obvious. The more in depth answer, is waiting for a young man who said he’d meet us here. Said someone in this building had something that needed done.”
Arothir: ”...did Charlie send you? God damnit! Get inside, quick! They’re coming!” He launches into a crouch, brandishing the broomhandle
    Alusair: ”... Charlie?”
Arothir: The man starts looking panicked
Shenvallei: Sheath my weapon then follow Al if she decides to enter.
Alusair: Enter.. sword not sheathed, leaning on my shoulder
    Arothir: You enter
Arothir: Inside…there are…massive numbers of cats
    Arothir: roaming everywhere
    Arothir: he shuts the door
Arothir: Pressing his back up against the wall
Arothir: Apparently listening to the door
Arothir: ”...okay…I think the gnomes didn’t notice you come in… if Charlie didn’t send you, who are you?
    Alusair: ”...
    Alusair: “
Alusair: “People who heard you needed help with something.”
    Shenvallei: “Pretty much.”
Arothir: He stares at you, as though deciding whether to trust you or assault you with the broomhandle.
Arothir: ”...okay… you’ve got to stem the tide of the gnome advance! Cut off the head, and the body will run around a bit and cut your friends leg off, but then it’ll die! Follow me!”
    Alusair: “STOP.”
Arothir: He runs deeper into the house, stopping the moment he hears your voice.
Alusair: “I’m getting tired of this already.”
    Arothir: He turns, looking confused
Alusair: “Payment, who to kill, and what they did. Now.”
    Arothir: He stammers, confused.
Arothir: “The—- the gnomes…they burned and pillaged my town… they were everywhere…the trees… you need to take the fight to them… burn them out..”
    Alusair: ”...”
Alusair: “Maybe I should add another question. WHERE.”
Shenvallei: “And what is the reward my good sir?”
Arothir: “Reward? Son, you mean promotion, vengence against your fallen comrades and the knowledge you’re killing the bastards who murdered thousands of humans on my Prime world aren’t enough? I suppose I could throw in a few trinkets from the war…”
Arothir: “As for where…there’s a portal in an alley three buildings down…you’ll need this to open it…”
Arothir: He tosses the broomhandle at you
    Alusair: ”... I’ve heard enough.”
  • Alusair turns on one boot-heel, sheathing her sword and going out the door. *
Arothir: You step out the door, and you see Van standing in the street, leaning on his Halberd, smiling slightly, but not in a malicious way.
Shenvallei: “I dont beleive I have any stake in your war on your prime world. We would need a firm offer of a reward. When you think of one you can contact us, send a messenger to the…”
Shenvallei: What was the name of the bar we are staying at?
    Shenvallei: not the fat candle
    Alusair: Return Van’s sword
Alusair: and fill him in on the old man’s request
    Arothir: Hrm..
Shenvallei: Well I say the name of the bar. Then turn and follow Alusair.
Shenvallei: “What a Blarmey old man.
    Shenvallei: “
Alusair: “The term you’re lookin’ for is “barmy”, cutter. But I give you credit for trying.”
    Shenvallei: “Ah right.”
Alusair: “We’ll make a Cager out of you yet.”
    Arothir: The Black Wind Tavern
Arothir: ”...as odd as it sounds, that man isn’t half off his rocker…”
Arothir: He points off towards a nearby alley
    Alusair: “Portal’s real?”
    Arothir: Spot check
    Shenvallei: [1d20<!- Official Roll ->] => [20] = (20)
Arothir: “Damn if I know about the portal…”
    Shenvallei: +2
Arothir: Shen, you look, and you make out the form of a gnome with grayish looking skin with green splotches staring at you, then dissapearing into the alley
Shenvallei: “One of those gnomes is awatching us.”
Arothir: “There were more of them earlier.”
    Alusair: [1d20+5<!- Official Roll ->] => [2,5] = (7)
Alusair: “What’re you sods talking about?”
    Arothir: Van stares at you
Arothir: “Do you think I’m crazy too?”
Alusair: “I think we need to investigate this .. portal..”
Shenvallei: “did you talk to them? Lets get their side of the story.” I head towards the alley.
    Alusair: Follow Shen
Arothir: You head towards the alley
Arothir: Did you take the broomhandle?
    Shenvallei: I didnt.
Arothir: Or did you let it clatter to the floor?
    Shenvallei: I didnt touch it.
Alusair: ”... Who’s got the broom?”
    Arothir: Van looks confused
    Arothir: “I was outside…what broom?”
Alusair: “Shen? He threw it at you.”
    Shenvallei: Did he?
Shenvallei: Thought he threw it at Al.
Shenvallei: Either way its back in his house.
Arothir: It was just…at both of you
    Arothir: :P
Shenvallei: “Why do we need it? Is it one of those portal keys?”
Alusair: “Its a portal key, according to the old man, and yes, we need it.”
Arothir: Van looks at both of you
    Arothir: ”...I can’t go in there…”
Arothir: “He considers me to be…uh…tainted…”
    Alusair: ”. . . . . “
Alusair: turn on my heel, hands thrown up in the air and letting out a most un-characteristic scream of frustration
Alusair: and head back to the building
Shenvallei: I go inside and grab the broom.
Arothir: Shen nips in and grabs the broom
Shenvallei: I hold it in front of me and head towards the alleyway.
    Arothir: You do so
Alusair: Slump against the alley wall, arms folded
Arothir: You get a little bit in
Arothir: Before the wall next to you pulses with a faint blue glow
Shenvallei: Touch the wall with the broom.
Arothir: The broom seems to want to go straight through
Shenvallei: I carefully step in making sure theres solid ground beneath me.
    Arothir: There is
    Arothir: It feels squishy
    Shenvallei: Like mud?
    Arothir: Yep
Shenvallei: Step in and look about.
Arothir: You step in and look around
Arothir: You find yourself in a lush tropical forest…it feels almost uncomfortably warm here, and the sun beats down on you happily, when it can get through the overgrowth. Behind you, the portal shimmers lightly between two arched together trees. In front of you is the remains of a village, most of which is smoldering, as though it had been burned recently. Only half of a building remains standing, but the wood it is comprised of looks extremely charred.
    Alusair: step through after him
Arothir: You witness the same scene
    Arothir: Van follows
Shenvallei: “I wonder where we are.”
Shenvallei: Do the plants look like those Ive seen in Faerun?
Arothir: If you listen, you can hear some birds calling back and forth, and some agnoized moaning.
Arothir: Have you ever been to the tropics of Faerun? Does Faerun even HAVE tropics?
    Shenvallei: No and yes.
    Alusair: Chult
    Alusair: most notably
    Shenvallei: So I wouldnt know.
    Arothir: Kay
    Arothir: No you wouldnt.
Alusair: you should’ve read the guide the gnome was reading
    Alusair: :P
Shenvallei: I did. But Ive never been out of my village so.
Arothir: But from a your (nick’s) perspective, it looks like, well, palm trees and ferns
Shenvallei: Chult may as well be Tarterus.
    Arothir: lawl
Alusair: Tropics I’ve seen.. probably not long enough at a time to be familiar with anything
    Arothir: indeed.
Alusair: more of a case of “Right, at least I know the weather to expect” :P
Shenvallei: Ill head forward scanning for snares.
    Arothir: Van looks…amazed.
    Arothir: Yep
    Arothir: Alright, Roll for scanning!
    Arothir: Detect traps or spot
    Shenvallei: [1d20<!- Official Roll ->] => [15] = (15)
    Shenvallei: +2 spot.
Arothir: You see some snares in the treeline
  • Alusair prays briefly, laying a hand on Jess’s shoulder. “Stay sort’a close, huh?” She draws her weapon and moves slowly after Shen *
Arothir: They seem concentrated in one direction
Shenvallei: I think its search actually isnt it?
    Alusair: its search
    Alusair: lol
Arothir: Van is kind of bewildered and looking around, halberd in one hand
    Shenvallei: k make that a +8 :P
    Arothir: lawl
Arothir: ...you spot some more snares
Arothir: They seem to be slinging snares, which drag you up to trees
Arothir: Or to release logs which swing down from trees
Shenvallei: Is it a simple matter of cutting the rope to disarm them or is it more intricate?
Arothir: Uh…you could cut the rope, yes
Arothir: But you don’t know what that would cause
Arothir: As you can’t see up into the thick overlayer of forest.
    Shenvallei: “Traps ahead.”
Shenvallei: “Looks like some kind of snare.”
Arothir: You hear a rustle and a muffled thud behind you
Arothir: Followed by some minor cursing
    Shenvallei: Turn and look.
Arothir: There’s a 10×10 hole in the ground
Arothir: Out of which leaps Van, only slightly dirty
    Shenvallei: Ugh, traps behind too.
Arothir: ”...didn’t see that ‘cause I was checking the other way.”
Alusair: “Right.. lets get into the village proper, probably not going to be quite so many snares there.”
Alusair: “Shen, are these snares defending the village, or to trap people trying to flee FROM the village?”
Shenvallei: Ill pull out my 10’ pole and attempt to trigger the snares from a safe distance.
Alusair: ...Get the FUCK away from Shen
    Alusair: :P
    Arothir: ...
Shenvallei: “My guess would be that they are trapping the portal itself. Unless the entire village is surrounded by these traps.”
    Arothir: Right.
Arothir: Which kind of trap do you attempt to trigger?
    Arothir: Loop trap, or tripwire?
    Shenvallei: Loop firstly.
    Arothir: Reflex check
    Shenvallei: [1d20<!- Official Roll ->] => [10] = (10)
    Shenvallei: +4
  • Alusair sighs and starts inching her way towards the half-standing building. **
    Alusair: [1d20+5<!- Official Roll ->] => [2,5] = (7) search.. but I can’t spot a trap higher than a 20 DC, if I remember right
    Alusair: WOOT
Shenvallei: “Careful Al there may be more snares.”
Alusair: I’m too busy looking for live targets to pay attention to traps
    Alusair: :P
Arothir: The loop trap goes off, tightening amazingly quickly around your ten foot pole, yanking it from your grip, lifting it up almost out of reach.
    Arothir: Listen checks.
Arothir: On your way to the building, you spot and avoid a spike pit.
    Shenvallei: [1d20<!- Official Roll ->] => [16] = (16)
    Shenvallei: +2 for listen
    Alusair: [1d20<!- Official Roll ->] => [2] = (2)
    Alusair: lol
Alusair: One bad thing about this verse RL
Alusair: is I can’t take this D20, throw it across the room, and swithc to a different one
    Alusair: :P
    Arothir: lawl
    Arothir: Well
    Arothir: you can
    Arothir: :P
    Shenvallei: lol!
Arothir: I can roll for you
Arothir: Or you can switch to a diff. roll system
    Arothir: 2d10, for instance
    Arothir: for your next roll
    Arothir: :P
