Planescape Campaign
Session Forty Three
‘Kiergath’ connected
Alex: Harro!
Kiergath (Alusair): yeah, that works.
Alex: So he’s re-settling in, I guess
Kiergath (Alusair): Going to refrain from using the picture on the obs-port site, though, out of deference to the artist.
Alex: Which artist?
Kiergath (Alusair): Shiramune, on DA.. also one of the rather frequent blizzard fan artists, and one of the best.
GM: Ahh, gotcha
Alusair: Hmm… Short haft and haft strike are pretty much the only ones I really want, which’ll require two weapon fighting somewhere along the line.. la.
‘Nick’ connected
Alusair: it never hurts to have a plan.
GM: Hey there nick!
Nick (Shenvallei D’ansille): Howdy Alex! Morgan, que tal?
Alex: Que pasa?
Kiergath (Alusair): you barbarians need to learn to speak a real language.
Nick (Shenvallei D’ansille): lol nada kimosabe.
Nick (Shenvallei D’ansille): Hablas espanol Alex?
GM: Hablas de nada.
Nick (Shenvallei D’ansille): nice new pic Morgan.
Nick (Shenvallei D’ansille): did someone ping Doug by any chance.
Alex: I didn’t even know he was around. I’ve been on Xfire for a while and he hasn’t pinged me.
Kiergath (Alusair): he just messaged me feeling put upon because apparently I didn’t see a question he sent me last night before my comp blew up.
Nick (Shenvallei D’ansille): Is he still bugging you guys? I remember you had an issue a while back.
Nick (Shenvallei D’ansille): phone sec
Alex: I’m fine with Doug, but he hasn’t said much to be since my dissapearance.
Kiergath (Alusair): I’m fine with doug. He just goes off the deep end sometimes.
Alex: I didn’t even find out about the D&D campaign he was running with you guys until you both said something
Alusair: is that before or after you emailed him and asked about it?
Kiergath (Alusair): is that before or after you emailed him and asked about it?
Alex: I haven’t even asked him about the dungeon run
Nick (Shenvallei D’ansille): this is horseshit, I think if you want to download sins diplomacy you have to buy all 3 for 40$
Kiergath (Alusair): Alex, if you’re interested, I believe in-between the weirdness, Doug is still offering you an AoC gamecard
Alex: Er… that doesn’t make sense.
GM: I may take him up on it sometime, but not at the moment. I’m almost at my goal of self-sufficiency
Nick (Shenvallei D’ansille): a worthy goal my friend.
Nick (Shenvallei D’ansille): my bad I was wrong, you can buy diplomacy seperately
Alusair: thats not really a surprise.. if you couldn’t it would be kind’ve foolish even for them
Alusair: and stardock doesn’t tend to be that stupid.
Nick (Shenvallei D’ansille): yup. They are a good company imo.
Kiergath (Alusair): …Doug has made a new, revised offer to take into account your strange moral calendar, Alex.
Alex: …erm?
Kiergath (Alusair): He will give you the game card, and his pay pal info so you can pay him back at a nickel a month.
Alex: LOL
Kiergath (Alusair): And thus feel less bad.
Alex: Problem: I don’t have a paypal account.
Kiergath (Alusair): I’ll tell him you’re making up excuses and the answer is still no.
Kiergath (Alusair): :P
Nick (Shenvallei D’ansille): you dont? paypal is great.
Kiergath (Alusair): paypal is the devil. it sends me email ads.
Alex: I’m perfectly willing to go back to AoC, but I have to get a job first
Nick (Shenvallei D’ansille): problem is they dont let you buy porn with paypal.
Kiergath (Alusair): yes, but doug wants to hand you two months out of the kindness of his heart.
Kiergath (Alusair): also, nick, that was rather random.
Kiergath (Alusair): :P
Alex: …yeah
Nick (Shenvallei D’ansille): I know. Im in a random mood. Trying to get into character for Shen.
Kiergath (Alusair): don’t hurry on our account.
Nick (Shenvallei D’ansille): Also Ill come back to conan eventually. Just want to give sto a good fair try for awhile first.
Kiergath (Alusair): We all have our problems.
Nick (Shenvallei D’ansille): I took dougs opinion into account. And so far the game seems a bit repetitious. Which is fine until it gets boring.
Kiergath (Alusair): I have a question for the court. More specifically the DM.
Alex: Yes?
Kiergath (Alusair): Was the court recorder willing / able to accompany master Van Haal to dinner that evening, or was the day a complete and total bust?
Kiergath (Alusair): …. I just found his notes.
Kiergath (Alusair): :P
Alex: Uh, A.)
Kiergath (Alusair): So the day was not a complete and total bust.
Kiergath (Alusair): Thats important to know, if I ever have to play him again.
Alex: lol
Alex: Shen = matchmaker!
Nick (Shenvallei D’ansille): /bow
Alex: But yeah, let me know when you’re both settled.
Kiergath (Alusair): …been settled.
Alex: Operative being both.
Shenvallei D’ansille: Kiergath yeah
Alex: Psst. Shen, that went to me.
Alex: Are we all three settled in?
Nick (Shenvallei D’ansille): yes Im set.
Alex: Very well!
SESSION RECAP
Alusair and Shenvallei, fresh from retreating from the Archmagus Galen, stumble into an ancient ruin, and begin to explore. They encounter a fire elemental, angered when Shenvallei stabbed it with a fire-poker, but eventually he doused it with his Bottle of Endless Oceans. They encounter a gatekeeper of the cult of Blood, who denies them entrance to the inner sanctums without a blood sacrafice.
Alusair: ….
Alusair: HOLY SWEET JESUS
Alex: Hm?
Alusair: THE WAY YOU PUT THAT REVEALS ALL TO ME
Alex: …what?
Alusair: ….
Alusair: A way to move forward without harm being done to anyone important.
Before you stands the pale gatekeeper, his arms covered in scars. He awaits your response to his demand for Blood.
Alusair: Is there an altar that appears to be where he is, you know, expecting the sacrifice made?
Yes. Standing behind him, to the side of the door.
Alusair glances at the gatekeeper, then the altar, before stepping towards it and drawing her dagger in the same motion. Unless stopped, she draws it quickly across her palm, letting the blood fall on the stone.
Shenvallei D’ansille: “Blood sacrifice? If it is blood you require without death of the giver then I see no harm in it.”
“Very well. You may enter. Pray, be respectful. A sermon is in progress.”
Shenvallei D’ansille: I follow. If he requires a blood sacrifice from me as well I copy Alusairs actions.
He does not seem to demand it of you. Do you offer it anyway?
Shenvallei D’ansille: no.
Alusair studies the blade of the dagger, letting the blood continue to drip down onto it until it slows, before finally sheathing it.
Kiergath (Alusair): Clarification, once the man is satisfied with the sacrifice, let the blood drip on the weapon.
The door behind the gatekeeper swings open, revealing befor you a reasonably sized chapel of monks, kneeling in prayer around an altar ringed in a pool of blood. There are a few empty places among the congregation where one might supplicate oneself before the preacher.
Alusair looks at the gatekeeper, “What was this place? Before your order came here?”
Gatekeeper: “Empty. The stone has no blood. It does not speak to us.”
Alusair: “How long have you been here?”
Gatekeeper: “Near on millenia, it seems. So it has been said.”
Shenvallei D’ansille: “A thousand years? Unlikely.”
Alusair: “Is it?”
Gatekeeper: “How does this one gauge our time here, then?”
Shenvallei D’ansille: “I dont. Forgive my presumption.”
Shenvallei D’ansille looks for an open space to hear the sermon.
Gatekeeper: “Please. Step forward and enjoy the rest of the sermon.”
Alusair: enter the room behind Shen.
There are three places where you may join the circle. At the sides of the preacher, and there are two open spaces at the blood pool directly in front of him.
Shenvallei D’ansille: I move the the spot at the preachers left.
You join the circle as well Alusair?
Alusair: Sit at the pool.
Alusair: Kneel, but more in a “Standing would be rude” rather than a “supplication/grovel”.
Shenvallei D’ansille whispers to Alusair, “Lets try to remain friendly ok, I havent had time to re-study my spells and am a bit lacking at the moment.”
Preacher: “…so it has been said that the Blood shall flow through the rivers, run through the forests, and the Blood will swoop down from the skies, until it has drunk it’s fill from the earth. Feel it run through you, feel it empower you. You each are imbued with the essence of Our God, and we are the lucky who know how He Rules over Us All.”
Alusair: Not sure you’re close enough to whisper discretely..
Alusair: if you’re next to him and I’m infront of him, and its a circle . .
GM:
The congregation murmors something, in unison, drawing daggers from their robes, slicing open the palms of their hands, and placing their hand, palm down, into the top of the pool of blood.
“I see we have new members in our little congregation. Welcome. Have you come to participate in the Quickening?”
Kiergath (Alusair): I can’t remember if a religion check told me anything last time or not, or is there not much point in trying?
You’ve never heard of the Quickening, or this particular blood cult, for that matter.
Kiergath (Alusair): That was the question.
Alusair: “Forgive me, but I know little of your practices. I mean no disrespect, but I wish only to observe and listen, so much as you will allow.”
Shenvallei D’ansille: “My companion speaks for me as well.”
Preacher: “The only way to understand our practices is to join us… tell me, warrior, do you not feel the song of Our God? When you lay about you in battle, does he not Sing in your Ears? This very sign speaks that you are ready to have your blood Quickened.”
Shenvallei D’ansille shrugs at Alusair.
Alusair: “Perhaps I have felt some strain of the song you speak of, but while a person may give homage to many gods, my life is already pledged in the service of one, and I would not, and could not, in good faith join your following.”
Shenvallei D’ansille nods in understanding.
Preacher: “Oh, we do not serve him, but merely give him the Notice he rightly deserves. For in undertaking the Quickening, you find yourself blessed with his Gift, to do with as you will. To serve another god is not against His Teachings. In truth, there are no other preachers of His name, aside from myself. We follow, and recognize, pay homage, but many still believe wholly in other dieties.”
Shenvallei D’ansille looks at the preacher then back at Alusair.
Alusair: "Then your blood god is far more reasonable than many other, more peaceable and “upright” Powers. I see no conflict in giving homage to a god who’s creed appears to be so in line with my own. Though I would ask you a question before – how came you to this place?"
Preacher: “A thousand years ago, I stumbled through a portal on the outlands. When I realized where I was, I was beset by a wild beast, covered in razorvine. The foul creature left me to die, many days north of here. I should have died, but I did not. My blood merely pooled on the ground, until I ceased to bleed completely. I found that it was He who had spared me, to spread his word. I set out looking for a suitable place to hold chapel, and I found this place as being deserted, so I crafted our chapel from this room. Since, I have sought to spread the word to all of the townships on this island, with some success.”
Alusair: “Interesting… I will do this thing you ask of me.”
Preacher: “Will he who you speak for do as well?”
Shenvallei D’ansille: “I will.”
Preacher: “Very well. Open your palm with a blade, and press it into the pool, as they have done before you. This will allow him to Quicken you.”
Alusair: Do so.. same dagger.
Shenvallei D’ansille: I mimic the action though a bit squeamishly.
As you press your palms into the pool of blood, you feel an instant change occur within you. Your heart races brilliantly fast, and you feel your body’s senses heighten. You can feel your blood pounding through your veins, almost too warm. Upon drawing your hand from the pool, there is no remainder of the cut, not even a scar. It has healed completely.
Shenvallei D’ansille: “The blood, it healed us.”
Your pulses seem quicker, and your senses seem to take in more of the world than before.
Preacher: “You have been Quickened. He will be with you now.”
Alusair: “Hm..”
Shenvallei D’ansille: “Thank you…”
Shenvallei D’ansille bows before the preacher and the pool.
Alex: In Game Terms, you may both want to note this.
You have been quickened. This has sped up your natural processes a bit, so you will be more resistant, and you have slightly faster reaction times.
Alex: You should note that you get +1 BaB, +1 to all Saves, +1 to Init
Alex: However, you also lose -6 Hp from your maximum total.
Kiergath (Alusair): I need to stop doing stupid shit.
Alusair: HP
Alusair: Query.
Nick (Shenvallei D’ansille): how long is the effect? permanant?
Alusair: Is that a bonus to hit, or a bonus to BaB?
Alex: Permanant.
Nick (Shenvallei D’ansille): its a good trade off I think
Alex: BaB
Nick (Shenvallei D’ansille): can we edit our own sheets?
Alex: Yes, you can edit your own sheet
Alex: :P
Nick (Shenvallei D’ansille): hmm cant for some reason
Nick (Shenvallei D’ansille): there we go
“I hope that he will give you comfort when you need it.”
Alusair flicks her gaze back to the preacher, “I wouldn’t have thought a god of blood was all that much for giving comfort.”
Shenvallei D’ansille: “Is there a place we can rest prophet? Though the blood fills us with vigor, the road has made us weary.”
Preacher: “You may rest here, unless you feel that there are better accomodations to be had elsewhere in the facility. The sermon is done for this month.”
Indeed, the congregation seems to be dispersing, leaving their robes in the altar room, and leaving.
Shenvallei D’ansille: “Thank you prophet.”
Shenvallei D’ansille finds a corner to settle in and begins rememorizing.
Alusair: Charming. I’ll just, you know, go back outside and collect the rest of the party while he settles down for 8 hours.
You begin to rememorize and rest.
Alusair: .. and warn the padre that there’s more of us.
He doesn’t seem to mind.
Shenvallei D’ansille: Resetting Wizard Powers
You walk outside to find Almach in the middle of what appears to be a heated argument with his former captor, Milyssa. Two harmonium soldiers are watching them, amusedly.
Alusair: Two?
Alusair: They put him back together?
Alusair: Or do we have a new hardhead?
He looks almost identical to the old one.
Almach Carr-ai: “Alusair, would you tell this conniving bitch that just because there was no loot to be had at that damn tower that she doesn’t get to haul me away.”
Alusair: “It is a telling argument, as disappointing as the lack of spoils was to me.”
Milyssa: “Thank you. We’ll be on our way, then, unless you’ve found a bar of platinum in there.”
Alusair: “I’d really hate to have to mar our relationship by killing you.”
Alusair: “As for a bar of platinum, yes, I have one, no, you’re not getting my key off this rock.”
Alusair: “If you want it, you’ll have to wait around until we’re done searching this place.”
Milyssa: “…I swear, if it were any other two bit criminal, I’d have cut his throat and said to the nine with the bounty by now…”
Alusair: “Whether he is or is not a two-bit criminal is of little relavence here. What is relavent is that he happens to be my friend, and as I said before, it would be a terrible shame to start making too happy with the cutlery at the moment.”
Milyssa: “Fine, have it your way. Unless I get something that’s worth his head, we’re settling this when we get to Sigil.”
Alusair: “I believe that was the original arrangement, yes..”
Almach Carr-ai: “Find anything good in there, Alusair? Anything sellable?”
Alusair: “Depends, there’s a blood god cult inside, but they’re reasonably friendly people. I haven’t had a chance to go over the whole place yet.”
Alusair: “And I would be careful of what you choose to walk off with, it appears to have been a temple.. and some gods are best not offended. This is one of them.”
Milyssa: “A Blood god? We’re worried about offending a blood god?”
Alusair: “Incorrect.”
Alusair: “They’re relatively new arrivals, from what I can tell.”
Almach Carr-ai: “Old god, then. Right… Nothing with an emblem on it.”
Almach Carr-ai: “Where’s the elf?”
Alusair: “Sleeping – where else?”
Almach Carr-ai: “Ah, yes.”
Alusair: “As I said, I suspect we’ve not managed to search most of the premises.”
Alusair: “I’d suggest we call it a night, sleep off the last day’s march and the tension, and give it a fresh go-over in the morning.”
A voice comes from behind you. “I hope you weren’t expecting dinner. The kitchen fire seems to have gone out.”
Alusair: “The kitchen fire happened to attack us. And I didn’t put it out, the elf did.”
“Well then, I suspect that’s that..”
You rest and recover.
Shenvallei D’ansille Yawns loudly.
Shenvallei D’ansille rumages around his pack for some food.
You find yourselves seated around the ring of blood, rested, surrounded by red tapestries on every wall. The two harmonium look sufficiently creeped out. The Preacher is meditating on his platform. Everyone else has left.
Shenvallei D’ansille: “These worshippers may revere a benign god, but they dont eat very well.”
Alusair: “We did rather put out their kitchen fire.”
Shenvallei D’ansille: “Hmm. I hadnt considered that.”
Alusair: “Its fine.”
Alusair: Righto. Looks like the unexplored part is mostly south
Where do you head? You noticed exits from the entrance, the dining room, and the kitchen.
Alusair: …kitchen first, since its closest
Alusair: not that I can, you know, REALLY tell, since the map is currently showing an awesome view of nothing
Shenvallei D’ansille: “Al can I ask you a question privately?”
Shenvallei D’ansille steps aside.
Alusair shrugs, “Yeh?”
Shenvallei D’ansille: “Im a bit confused. What is this place and how much of it does this cult claim. I mean I doubt they want us exploring and looting from their holdings.”
Shenvallei D’ansille: “Or are we… not caring about that.”
Alusair: “I don’t intend to loot, and have intrusted Almach to be similarly careful in what he collects.”
Shenvallei D’ansille: “Ah sightseeing then? Very well.”
Shenvallei D’ansille: “Lets move on.”
Alusair: Check-a the door.
Ahead, a long hall, with a door on your left.
The door does not seem to be unlocked.
Alusair: Skill [Listen] [1d20+5 = 25]
You hear the faint settling of grains of rice.
Alusair: thats great, anything beyond the door?
Indeed. Beyond the door, a food storage room, filled with all manner of good, from rice, to dried meats. Your eyes pulse briefly, noticing a slight indent in an open container of rice.
Shenvallei D’ansille: “Hmm.” Enter the room.
Shenvallei D’ansille: Inspect the indentation.
It seems as though someone has scooped a bit of rice out.
Shenvallei D’ansille turns to Al and frowns.
Alusair: can we get, you know, an update on the map to see this room Shen’s standing in?
Alusair: other exits?
Alex: Sry
Alex: None.
Alusair: Anything invisible?
Nothing.
Alusair: just being thorough.
Shenvallei D’ansille: “Rice. Grain. Ho hum.”
Shenvallei D’ansille leaves the room.
The hallway ends in a sharp corner.
Shenvallei D’ansille: Is the hallway illuminated?
Yes. Glowing stones similar to that found in Galen’s tower.
Alusair: Convenient.
Shenvallei D’ansille: “Only thing this tells me is that we are still in the domain of the cult.”
Alusair: “Possibility, yes.”
Shenvallei D’ansille: “I wonder how big this ruin is.”
Shenvallei D’ansille pulls out his cartographers stylus and a piece of parchment.
You see another corner, around which you smell something burning.
You come around the corner, and you see four rotting humanoids huddled around a large cauldron, each with a giant stirring rod. They appear to be making some sort of reddish paste over a fire.
There’s a door on your immediate left.
Alusair: Any response to me when I enter?
GM: No.
Alusair: Investigate the door.
It is thickly engraved with images of faded figures engaged in some sort of ritual.
Alusair: any way to make out the images?
Outside of travelling back to a time when they were more visible, no.
Alusair: “Hells, where is Almach? At least he might be able to get a date on this thing.”
Alusair: How recently it look like the door’s been used?
Recently.
Possibly within the past day.
GM: Do you send for Almach?
Alusair: I would if I had a way to do that.
Alusair: Alas, I do not.
Alusair: I knew I should have kept Zero’s kobold butler.
Shenvallei D’ansille: They are still outside?
Alusair: Do you think I could put up a help wanted ad in SIGIS?
Alusair: for a kobold butler?
Alex: in Sigil?
Alex: Yes, most likely you can
Alex: They’re in the kitchen, last you knew, or the dining room.
Shenvallei D’ansille: “I dont trust the bounty hunter with Almach. Ill go fetch them.”
Shenvallei D’ansille: I head back and invite the lot of them to join us for some exploration.
Shenvallei D’ansille: Then if all goes well we return to the door where Alusair is.
You do.
Almach Carr-ai: “…what the piss are those four…things doing?”
Shenvallei D’ansille: “Some blood ritual most likely. Everything the cult does involves it.”
Alusair: “. . .you investigate the door and see what you can tell about it – age, value, whatever. I’ll worry about the pot.”
Alusair: Investigate the crockpot
Shenvallei D’ansille flips a coin.
The rotting ones seem to be mixing together a bunch of rice and blood.
Almach Carr-ai: “…Okay, very funny, Alusair. Where did you get this thing?”
Shenvallei D’ansille: “Somethings dinner?”
Alusair sighs, “What thing, Almach?”
Alusair: “Shen I picked up in a Sigil alley for five silver and I’ve been trying to get my money back ever since. The door was here when I got here.”
Almach Carr-ai: “The door. It can’t possibly belong here. It’s too old. And it doesn’t fit. It’s from a Prime world.”
Alusair: “Oh? Know any more?”
Almach Carr-ai: “Well, it’s not worth much on the planes, but if you were to get it back to it’s original world? You’d be living like this man up here, surrounded by the sun beams.”
Almach Carr-ai gestures to the top of the door.
Alusair: “Would you kindly just tell me what the bloody thing’s depicting?”
Shenvallei D’ansille: “Maybe the door leads back to the prime world of its origin? No that would be too logical.”
Alusair: “Logic? That? Is that how logic works on Faerun?”
“Well, I think there are some cats down here… the rest of it just looks like a portrait of worship… I think, wherever this was originally, whoever this was was meant to be depicting was buried behind it.”
Alusair: “Interesting.”
Shenvallei D’ansille: “A door to a tomb perhaps?”
Alusair: “It locked? And if so, can it be opened safely without damaging it?”
Almach Carr-ai: “Looks like it just pushes open, here, where it’s the most worn.”
Alusair: “Well, feel free.”
Almach Carr-ai heaves the door open, and is immediately blown back across the room by an incredible force. You think you hear bones crack.
Alusair: “Ah.. right.”
Alusair: See how many of the corpses he landed on.
Shenvallei D’ansille: “Hmm well thats an interesting ward.”
He missed the corpses completely.
Alusair: Impressive, its a small room.
Alex: Corpses are in the UL corner
Alex: And he went more up than over
Alusair: Whatever, wander over to him
Almach Carr-ai lies crumpled in a corner, moaning.
Alusair: By which I mean, quick like bunny
Shenvallei D’ansille looks at the others. “Either of you care to test to see if that was a one time trap?”
Alusair: “You’re the one at the door.”
Shenvallei D’ansille: Is the door open at the moment or did it reclose?
It’s open.
Shenvallei D’ansille: Peek inside.
Beyond, you see a dark figure, studying a large tome on a bone pedestal. His clothing is woven with bones throughout. He does not seem to have noticed you. The rest of the room is bare, save for the door he is studying near.
Alusair: [2d10+6 = 15]
Alusair: Move back over towards the door, peer into the room.
Shenvallei D’ansille: Is the figure moving or still?
The figure does not appear to be even breathing.
Shenvallei D’ansille: Enter the room.
You step into the room and his eyes lock onto you.
Shenvallei D’ansille: Kneel before him.
“Who dare enter the chambers of Ahk’tun?”
Shenvallei D’ansille: “My name is Shenvallei D’ansille. I am an explorer or knowledge, of power, and of mystery. My companions and I found you here by random chance. Forgive our intrusion.”
Shenvallei D’ansille: I keep my eyes averted from his.
Ahk’tun continues to stare, daring you to continue.
Shenvallei D’ansille: “You, Ahk’tun are no doubt an entity of considerable knowledge, power, and mystery. Would you be willing to share it, or perhaps trade some of it?”
Ahk’tun: “Trade? What would you trade me, for control over that which blood no longer owns?”
Shenvallei D’ansille: “I am but a mortal from another plane of existance. I likely posess little that would be of interest to you. If you can show me a sample of what are, what secrets you command, I will do something for you in return. Something that I as a mortal can do.”
“I have never known mortals to do anything other than die. You amuse me. Very well. A sampling of my power, then.”
Negative energy fills the room as Ahk’tun chants briefly before a dark wraith floats on either side of him.
Ahk’tun: “You have seen the merest fraction of my power, mortal. What can you offer me that I do not already have?”
Shenvallei D’ansille: “By my eyes you were once mortal. Made of flesh and bone now far gone and made into a physical form of immortality. Teach me of your power and gain the satisfaction that your legacy will be spread. Let me learn and I will perform a mortal task of service that you have no desire to do yourself.”
Ahk’tun: “You yourself recognize that I am immortal. What more legacy do I need?”
Shenvallei D’ansille: “I have seen gods forgotten, and orders that deny yours and any other immortals existence amongst the planes. As long as you have one who acknowledges you, you have recognition and that is power.”
Shenvallei D’ansille stands and faces Ahk’tun.
“I have no desire to become a god. If I did, I would not have let this rabble take over the temple. I am simply biding my time, and then, the multiverse will know my power.”
Shenvallei D’ansille: Can you mark Ahk’tun’s postion on the map?
Ahk’tun: There
Nick (Shenvallei D’ansille): I dont see it
Alex: Where alusair is now
Alex: See? Yes?
Alusair: I don’t wanna be a lich.
Alex: My tokens are brokens
Alex: And I dont wanna write on the map :P
Ahk’tun: Ty
Raar. I am a Lich.: There you go.
Shenvallei D’ansille: “You know, you are the second immortal I have groveled before in humility asking for a small bit of knowledge. It appears that becomming an immortal makes one selfish and arrogant. Let me query my request a different way. Share your power or have your existance erased.”
Ahk’tun: “Are you threatening me, mortal?”
Ahk’tun: “I, who have studied longer than you draw breath?”
Ahk’tun: “I, who have untold armies of wraiths at my command?”
Ahk’tun: “Who are you, to erase my existance?”
Shenvallei D’ansille: “Last chance Lich.”
Shenvallei D’ansille: Skill [Intimidate] [1d20+3 = 10]
Ahk’tun: “Mmm… you have made me reconsider, mortal… where is it that you hail from?”
Shenvallei D’ansille: Skill [Sense Motive] [1d20-2 = 1]
Shenvallei D’ansille: “Faerun.”
Ahk’tun: “What township? When I was a mortal, I was a faerunian elf, just as you are.”
Shenvallei D’ansille: “Sasal, and you? Where did you hail from?”
Ahk’tun: “I was from Sasal as well… do you remember the tallest tree in the village? What does it look like now? I used to climb it when I was a child.”
Shenvallei D’ansille: “We will have time to discuss pleasantries once you formally agree to let me study of your tomes.”
Ahk’tun: “Oh, of course, I will allow you complete access to my library, if you can simply tell me of that old tree.”
Shenvallei D’ansille: Skill [Sense Motive] [1d20-2 = -1]
Kiergath (Alusair): Hey, why did you steal my dice?
Shenvallei D’ansille describes the tree perfectly.
Nick (Shenvallei D’ansille): dunno, somethings wrong, I never roll this bad, Im usually a really high roller
Kiergath (Alusair): its fine, man.. keep them, I don’t want them. :P
“Very good, very good. Now, if you’ll excuse me… I’m just going to go visit… home…” Ahk’tun dissapears with a sinister cackle, leaving behind nothing but a thin trail of vapor, dissapating in the air between the two wraiths.
Shenvallei D’ansille: Is his tome still there?
The tome is, yes, still there.
Shenvallei D’ansille: Move forward and take it keeping an eye on the wraiths.
GM: You step forward, and the wraiths move to attack!
Shenvallei D’ansille: Initiative [1d20+6 = 23]
Shenvallei D’ansille
Shenvallei D’ansille: Spell [Scorching Ray] → Ranged touch attack deals 4d6 fire damage, +1 ray/four levels (max 3).
Shenvallei D’ansille: [1d6 = 4]
Shenvallei D’ansille: casts as a level 10
Shenvallei D’ansille: let me find out how many rays that is 2 or 3
Shenvallei D’ansille: 2 only
Shenvallei D’ansille: target the same wraith with both
Very well.
Shenvallei D’ansille: Ranged touch attack (Attack 1) [1d20+9 = 21]
Shenvallei D’ansille: Ranged touch attack (Attack 1) [1d20+9 = 15]

GM: Incorporeal touch (Damage) [1d4 = 3]
GM: [1d6 = 5]
The wraith’s partner lashes out and drags part of your soul away, leaving you feeling weakened.
Shenvallei D’ansille
Shenvallei D’ansille: step back 5 feet, can I hit both with a lighting bolt?
There are not 5 feet available to step in the room, unless you’re going to the side.
Shenvallei D’ansille: aye side
GM: Incorporeal touch [1d20+5 = 15]
GM: You can hit both, yes.
A wraith lashes out as you move and misses.
Shenvallei D’ansille: yikes let me know if they are gonna get an aoo :P
Alusair: o luk, now you know!
Alusair: :p
Shenvallei D’ansille: lol yeah after the fact…
Shenvallei D’ansille: anyway.
Shenvallei D’ansille: Target the one that I didnt hit with the scorching ray.
Kiergath (Alusair): not so, he missed. No ill effect except “Hay look, I SWING”
Raar. I am a Wraith slaps you across the face. Ouch!
Shenvallei D’ansille: Spell [Lightning Bolt] → Electricity deals 1d6/level damage.
Shenvallei D’ansille: Maximized
Shenvallei D’ansille: [1d6 = 1]
Alex: Mmhmm?
Shenvallei D’ansille: lame casts as a level 7
Alex: More like minimized.
Kiergath (Raar. I am a Wraith): amirite?
Alex: Roll it.
Raar. I am a Wraith: This portrait is awesome.
Raar. I am a Wraith: Theres nothing to roll, it does 7×6 damage.
Alex: Math it!
Shenvallei D’ansille: 42 save for half
Raar. I am a Wraith: not my problem. Can’t you read? I’m a wraith.
Raar. I am a Wraith: Raar.
GM: [1d20 = 20]
GM: [1d20 = 17]

GM: [1d6 = 4]
More of your essence begins slipping away from you.
Shenvallei D’ansille
Shenvallei D’ansille: pass out.
Alex: You pass out?
Alex: Like, fainting?
Shenvallei D’ansille: yes I think Im at -hp right now
Shenvallei D’ansille: oh wait
Shenvallei D’ansille: Ive taken 6 actual damage right?
GM: You’ve taken 6 actual damage
Shenvallei D’ansille: yeah that -6 from the quickening reduced me down
Unfortunately, the damage to your constitution means you’ve blacked out.
Shenvallei D’ansille: right. I would have 7 max hp at thsi point but
Shenvallei D’ansille: the -6 from the quickening means I have literally 1 hp max at this point, which means im at -5
Kiergath (Alusair): I have here in my hands.. a piece of history. Fucking epic history.
Alusair: An AD&D 2nd edition PHB.
Kiergath (Alusair): Wooo!
Kiergath (Alusair): now if only I could find the original printing one, without the fuckup that isn’t missing pages 161-176.
Shenvallei D’ansille: I have one too
Kiergath (Alusair): whatever, we have 3.
Kiergath (Alusair): :P
Kiergath (Alusair): I’m just looking to see what spells got axed.
Nick (Shenvallei D’ansille): a few, but mainly it was the nerfage, like stoneskin ect
Nick (Shenvallei D’ansille): or the no save spells
Nick (Shenvallei D’ansille): or how hold person could hit 3 targets
Nick (Shenvallei D’ansille): or was that 1st ed?
Alusair: dunno
Nick (Shenvallei D’ansille): So is Shen dead?
Nick (Shenvallei D’ansille): for the record I thought Alusair was behind me, my fault for not checking first :P
Kiergath (Alusair): Sorry, map’s out of date. I pulled Almach’s ass out of the area when I thought you and the lich were making nice.
Alex: Unfortunately, Nick, yes, Shen did bite the big one this time.
Nick (Shenvallei D’ansille): well at least I killed one wraith.
Alex: Bit off a bit more than was chewable
Alusair: did a number on #2 from what I could tell, too
GM: Yeah, you did.
GM: I’m a bit lost with how you’d like to continue, Nick.
Nick (Shenvallei D’ansille): way I see it theres only 2 choices.
Nick (Shenvallei D’ansille): either I make a new char or we end the campaign.
Kiergath (Alusair): You do realize there’s only one choice there that won’t cause a mutiny, yeah?
Nick (Shenvallei D’ansille): problem is I dont have a new char concept at the moment.
GM: I’m more than fine with you coming up with a new character. I’d like the campaign not to end.
Kiergath (Alusair): I’d offer to take over DMing if anyone wants, since we’re at a … hold.. here.
Alex: That makes sense to me, unless we have places to be.
Nick (Shenvallei D’ansille): fine by me too.
Kiergath (Alusair): oh yay, oh yay, now I get to kill people too!
Kiergath (Alusair): I believe now its time to bring up an age old D&D tradition you should keep in mind, Alex.
Kiergath (Alusair): Its called “Party kill XP”
Alex: Eh?
Kiergath (Alusair): sorry, pseudo-tradition in some groups – bonus XP awarded for a PC perma-death. I was mostly joking.
Raar. I am a Wraith: :P
My Name is Ozymandias, King of Kings. Look on my works, ye mighty, and despair.: Very well, I’ll leave now and put up the new server.
Alex: Alright.
Nick (Shenvallei D’ansille): kk
Alex: I’ll wrap up here and be right there.

They both undertake the Quickening, a process by which their blood speeds up. Shenvallei unsuccesfully tries to barter with a lich to become his heir, and discloses the specific location of his hometown, Sasal.
