Calling into being a plane of force around the caster similar to a Shield spell, the Cloak of Warding absorbs the first 5 points of damage from any attack (plus 1 per caster level, to a maximum of 5 + 10 for a total damage reduction of 15 at level 10), and lasts until it has absorbed 10 points of damage / caster level, at which point the spell fades out of existence.
